Director of Administration and Programming


Function: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Administration and Programming is responsible for the administration of technical and human resource management. The director has oversight of all Learning Center Programming including Humane Education and Behavior and Training striving for innovation and expansion to meet community needs.


Bachelor’s Degree required.

• Minimum of five years’ experience in administration and/or program development preferably in a non-profit environment.
• Strong background in administering and managing employee benefits.
• Knowledge of computer network systems and proficient in Microsoft products, QuickBooks accounting software and relational databases.
• Knowledge of animal welfare issues, human resource management, philanthropy and public relations a plus.

• Must be able to analyze and report on complex data in an easily digestible format.
• Must be energetic, team oriented and quality improvement minded and detail-oriented to keep track of all the day-to-day operations of a business along with strong analytical skills and an ability to work with many different types of people.
• Must be positive and flexible and able to handle difficult and sensitive situations with diplomacy and discretion. Must have public and employee relations skills as well as excellent communication skills.
• The Director must understand and respect confidentiality, be assertive, able to think strategically, prioritize, focus and be customer oriented.
• Demonstrates initiative and a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of senior management while working enthusiastically and cooperatively with all department and key management staff to assure that the goals of each department are met.
• The Director must be able to see the Business offices, Adoption Center, Learning Center and other programs in their relationship to the agency as a whole and the community at large.


• Develops and maintains policies and procedures for the agency.
• Participate in developing and coordinating the fiscal planning process including budgets.
• Completes special projects by organizing and coordinating information and requirements; planning, arranging, and meeting schedules and monitoring results.
• Maintains filing and retrieval systems for record management.
• Provides supervision for administrative support staff.

Information Technology:
• Manages all aspects of the agency network and management information systems in cooperation with various outsourced vendors.
• Provides communication systems by identifying needs; evaluating options; maintaining equipment; approving invoices.
• Manages agency software and web-based programs.
• Manages all business equipment for the agency.

Human Resources:
• Assist directors/managers in recruitment and ensures reference and background checks are complete for successful candidates.
• Completes employee on-boarding and orientation of new-hire.
• Coordinate all new hire paperwork and required filings .
• Ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State employment laws including completion of necessary and mandated paperwork.
• Oversees payroll and benefits administration.
• Coordinates required notices, mailing and benefits education.
• Creates a culture of respect, cooperation, and compassion.
• Promotes positive collaboration and teamwork and provides excellent customer service.

• Oversee Learning Center Programming including Humane Education and Behavior & Training Departments providing direct supervision to staff.
• Actively involved in developing new innovative programming to meet community needs while ensuring flexibility and consideration of resources.
• Responsible for overseeing and processing registrations for agency programs.
• Seeking to improve program and service quality by devising new applications; updating procedures; evaluating systems.
• Provide administration support for all major events including developing standard operating procedures and onsite staffing.

Other Responsibilities:
• Meets with executive director regularly to determine organizational strategies.
• Function as a member of NHSPCA Senior Management team. Participates in staff meetings, serve as a representative of NHSPCA management within the community and assess community needs and support.
• Serves on appropriate committees, task forces and networks.
• Collaborate in overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, machinery and equipment. Participate in overseeing facilities planning and custodial operations along with internal or external service contracts.
• Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, donors and staff recognizing their individual contribution to the success of the organization.
• Performs other duties as requested.
