Attorney

Legal Advice & Referral Center

LARC is a private, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services to eligible, low-income people in New Hampshire. Our attorneys and paralegals provide legal advice mostly by telephone in the areas of family, housing, foreclosure, and public benefits law. Primarily funded by the Legal Services Corporation, LARC works collaboratively with NH's other legal services programs to provide services statewide.


Legal Advice & Referral Center seeks an attorney to join in providing high quality legal assistance as part of a collaborative approach to responding to the health emergency. 

This is a one year position to provide high quality legal assistance in unemployment and housing matters for the low income population in New Hampshire.  The position will require managing intake and referral of applicants; providing legal advice and some representation at administrative and/or court hearings; learning and developing expertise in unemployment and housing law; mastering program technology; working cooperatively with partner agencies; and collecting and managing data for statewide planning and project evaluation purposes. 

The person in this role will work closely with NHLA Pro Bono Program to facilitate a collaborative approach to meeting client needs.

Requirements:
  1. Licensed to practice law in New Hampshire, in good standing.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Facility with technology and the accurate collection of data.
  4. Appropriate manner and sensitivity in dealing with applicants and clients.
  5. Highest degree of professionalism in the maintenance of client files, with particularly reference to professional responsibilities to clients.
  6. Professional demeanor and interactions with co-workers, supervisors, and colleagues in the broader legal community.
  7. Collegial and collaborative approach to the delivery of legal services in New Hampshire.
  8. Appropriate team approach to LARC mission.
  9. Maintenance of knowledge base necessary to the delivery of assistance in relevant areas of the law and clear understanding of limits of that knowledge base.
