America Votes New Hampshire is seeking a well-organized self-starter for a new position as the Communications Director. This person will be a critical part of our state team and responsible for supporting and coordinating communications-driven programs. This person will work with the America Votes NH coalition and will be responsible for coordinating and leading a coalition of partners to advance public legislative accountability programs, support the creation of cutting-edge digital content for coalition use, provide on-the-ground technical support to coalition partners and lead communications efforts as part of our efforts to advance a healthy democracy. They will be responsible for monitoring social media to adapt strategy to best perform alongside or respond to existing conversations. The position works directly with the America Votes team in New Hampshire, as well as dozens of progressive partners and allies with the state’s progressive movement. This position reports directly to the New Hampshire state director.

Requirements:
  • Ideal candidate will have four to six years of experience in a communications role, ideally in a campaign or in-house, non-profit setting. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, negotiate and strategically disagree within a highly collaborative work environment; ability to be respected by progressive stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong relationships quickly; experience facilitating and working within broad and diverse coalitions.
  • Experience and excellence in drafting media materials, including press releases, op-eds and/or letters to the editor.
  • Fluent in the strategic use of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms; Comfortable using or being trained in Google Analytics, WordPress, BlueStateDigital, NGP VAN/EveryAction and/or other advocacy platforms a plus.
  • Experience professionally generating content, driving strategy and generating analysis and digital recommendations.
  • Knowledge of AP Style and excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Actively follows current events and keeps up-to-date with critical issues in the progressive space.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing progressive values.
  • Ability to work independently and to drive and manage own workload; ability to manage multiple multi-stage projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to travel within the state (as needed); ability to work sometimes long, irregular hours, especially during the peak months of the electoral cycle. Must be a self-starter.

 

Preferred 

  • Knowledge of and experience with New Hampshire issue organization and/or political landscape. 
  • Familiarity with campaign organizing metrics. 
  • Experience with voting rights, ballot access issues and the NH legislature.
Responsibilities:

Campaign Coordination and Leadership

  • With support from the America Votes NH team, lead and coordinate a coalition of partners to advance legislative, issue advocacy, and electoral programs with a clear focus on communications.
  • Support grassroots programs and outreach.
  • Assist partner organizations in developing earned media opportunities with research-driven messages.

 

Digital Engagement

  • Work with coalition partners to develop and execute multi-tactic communications campaigns focused on digital and earned media activities around the state.
  • Work within the progressive issue movement and across the organization to identify digital opportunities to grow engagement and make recommendations on incorporating into existing projects. Support the drafting of and disseminate creative and engaging content into various conversations spaces online, including but not limited to: Facebook groups, messaging platforms, Twitter, blogs and via SMS. As needed, may be responsible for drafting content for coalition partners.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of digital content including utilizing video, social and digital design tools to create visually appealing content that will be shared across multiple online channels.
  • Evaluate and suggest testing strategies to get the most out of each digital initiative.

 

Earned Media 

  • Support coalition development of press relationships in the state.  
  • Coordinate research, fact sheets, press releases, press statements, letters to the editor, op-eds, micro-sites, and all other content needed to advance the coalitions goals. As needed, support the coordination of rapid response.
  • Work with partners on relevant communications programs to ensure we are meeting goals and deliverables on the various issues we work on.
  • Develop system for tracking metrics, for deliverable success and message penetration. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
