Agency Accountant

(SCS) is one of five community action agencies throughout New Hampshire, and part of the larger network of 70 agencies in New England and nearly 900 agencies nationwide. We have been serving the needs of our citizens since 1965 when President Lyndon Johnson waged his “War on Poverty.” Over the years our programs have evolved and expanded to keep pace with the constantly changing needs of our citizens. Work with CFO to manage the daily operations of the Fiscal Department and assure that the fiscal systems enable the agency to meet its mission and financial obligations.

Requirements:
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Knowledge of GAAP and Uniform Guidance
  • 5 years of experience in finance
  • General Ledger Accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Management experience
  • BS in Business or Accounting
  • MBA or CPA preferred or equivalent in education and experience
Responsibilities:
  • Accounting system oversight:  Monitors and oversees general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset systems, monthly bank reconciliations as well as Fiscal internal controls for assigned agency accounts.
  • Budgeting:  collaborates with assigned Program Directors in the preparation, management and forecasting of program budgets.
  • Invoicing:  creatings monthly billing to funding sources per assigned program grants, assisting Program Directors in planning and managing budget spenddown.
  • Audits and Monitorings:  Works with CFO to prepare and facilitate annual agency audit, as well as periodic program monitorings.
  • Reporting:  Generates monthly reports for all assigned programs.
  • Assumes responsibilities of CFO when absent, approving and making payments to vendors, funding drawdowns and communications with the Board of Directors.
  • Regularly serves as backup to other Fiscal staff during vacations and flex days.
