Health, Safety & Nutrition Service Manager

The Health, Safety, & Nutrition Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery and tracking of health, safety, and nutrition services in the SCS Head Start Program. The Health, Safety, & Nutrition Services Manager works with staff to ensure that all children have established a medical home, families are informed of community health and nutrition resources, and children with special health or nutrition needs have a current Individual Health or Nutrition Plan.  He/she ensures that all Head Start Centers adhere to Head Start Performance Standards and licensing standards in the areas of health, safety, & nutrition.

He/she conducts nutrition screenings and assessments, oversees special diet orders and provides nutrition/health education to children, parents, and staff. In addition, the Health, Safety & Nutrition Services Manager supervises the cooks in all Head Start Centers, creates the monthly menus, and oversees the adherence to USDA Child and Adult Care Program requirements, including reimbursable meals, food safety and sanitation regulations, program reports, and any food service contracts.

He/she is responsible for the overall safety of the Head Start Centers including but not limited to Emergency Preparedness Plans, reviewing Daily Safety Checklists weekly, scheduling and tracking First Aid/CPR courses, & ensuring the program is adhearing to all Child Care Licensing Rules and Head Start Performance Standards in regards to criminal background checks, employee physicals, and required health and safety trainings.  

As part of the HS Management team, he/she participates in program planning, staff training, program evaluation, and collaboration with community organizations.

Requirements:
  • Experience working with young children/ families.

• Knowledge of current health/ nutrition issues impacting families and children.

• Knowledge of Emergency Preparedness Plans and safety issues relating to child care programs

• Creative and positive attitude.

• Strong organizational skills. 

• Ability to travel and work flexible hours.

• Ability to work both independently and as a team player.

• Ability to lead projects and delegate tasks as necessary. 

  • Registered Dietician is preferred. Registered Nurse degree is considered with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Health Science, Nursing, Nutrition/ Dietetics, Public Health, or related field.
