Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

This is a full-time part-year dual role position for a Family Advocate and a Classroom Float. The person in this role will be responsible for the reporting, monitoring, and provision of social services and parent involvement opportunities to Head Start families and ensuring compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards.
This Family Advocate/Classroom Float will also assist teachers in providing a daily schedule of activities for facilitated play,meals, and transitions, as directed.
This position reports directly to the Family Services Manager.


Education and or Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, or a related field.
  • Prefer at least 9 credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE), including child growth and development.
  • 2 years of related experience in service delivery to families and children.
  • Knowledge of community resources in Strafford County preferred.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, philosophy, and mission is desired.
  • Intermediate computer literacy including: database management, EXCEL, WORD, and Outlook.

· Works with families on a scheduled basis in their homes; making frequent visits to each family as indicated by family need.
· Provides resources, referrals, and follow-up to families for basic social services needs and/or families in crisis.
· Coordinates with program staff to ensure all required vision, hearing, health and dental screenings, physicals and immunizations for caseload are complete in accordance with Head Start Performance /standards and State Child Care Licensing.
· Monitors,documents and follows up with families regarding all child absences.
· Supports in educating families in their role as advocates for their children’s education.
· Coordinates parent involvement programs with parents at the center. This includes: planning, coordinating,attending and initially facilitating parent meetings; actively supporting parent committee officers; soliciting parent involvement in the classroom;facilitating fund raising and other parent-selected activities.
· Engages in a wide range of Head Start/Early Head Start recruitment activities including: participation in community events,coordination with local community agencies, distribution of recruitment materials, participation in application days and completing enrollment applications for families.
· Completes timely and accurate reporting and documentation into the designated database.
· Ensures that parent participation is encouraged at all levels and that it remains voluntary.
· Assists Teachers in carrying out classroom routines as directed and actively participates in transition times, including child drop-off, pick-up and meal times.
· Actively engages with the children.
· Greets parents at arrival and pick up.
· Follows the classroom schedule set by the Lead Teacher.
· Assists with the monthly emergency practice drills.
· Other duties as assigned.
