Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

This is a temporary position covering for a Family Advocate out on maternity leave. Duration of this position is to be determined. Responsible for reporting, monitoring, and provision of social services and parent involvement opportunities to Head Start families and ensuring compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards under the direction of the Family Resource Manager. 

This includes planning and implementing community awareness activities and meeting with referral agencies. 


• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Social Services or related field with two (2) years’ experience in casework delivery to families with young children.  Supervisory or administrative experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, philosophy, and mission is desired.
• Intermediate computer literacy including:  database management, EXCEL, WORD, and Outlook. 


• Works with families on a scheduled basis in their homes; making frequent visits to each family as indicated by family need.
• Provides support for Head Start families and makes timely referrals for service to appropriate agencies when necessary.
• Follows up on referrals with clients and agencies of referral when appropriate and documents all efforts.
• Provides incoming Head Start families with a list of community resources and provides information and training to help families use resources effectively.
• Supports Head Start families coping with crisis situations.
• Contacts families regarding children's specific needs when a need is identified by the education, health, nutrition, or mental health staff.
• Contacts families after three consecutive days of child’s unexplained absence, or a pattern of absences; follows-up w/teacher.
• Informs staff at the center of any home situations which impact the child's development.
• Acts, in a support role, as an advocate for child and family.
• Supports parents in their role as advocates for their children’s education.
• Coordinates home visits with the center staff when concerns and purposes are mutual.
• Ensures that the Center Parent Group is established and functioning effectively.
• Coordinates parent involvement programs with parents at the center.  This includes: planning, coordinating, attending and initially facilitating parent meetings; actively supporting parent committee officers; soliciting parent involvement in the classroom; facilitating fund raising and other parent-selected activities. 
• Engages in a wide range of weekly recruitment activities including: soliciting agency referrals, distributing posters and flyers, visiting homes to complete applications, and recruiting door-to-door on an ongoing basis.  Participates in monthly application days.
• Monitors PROMIS entries on a regular basis to ensure that all required vision, hearing, health and dental screenings, physicals, and immunizations for caseload are complete according to Head Start Performance Standards and State Child Care licensing.
• Transports Head Start children and parents when needed -- in Head Start vehicles and own vehicle.
• Ensures that parent participation is encouraged at all levels and that it remains voluntary.
• Other duties as assigned.
