Development & Outreach Manager

NH Musculoskeletal Institute

NHMI/Safe Sports Network was founded in 1994 because of our strong belief in the many and varied benefits of youth sports participation. Children who participate in sports are more likely to graduate, get better grades and are more likely to succeed in life because they learn teamwork, goalsetting and self-esteem. On the flipside, they are less likely to be suspended, try drugs, get pregnant or attempt suicide. For all those reasons, sports can help keep kids safe and succeed. But keeping them safe as they participate is imperative. Since 1994, young athletes (approximately 4000-6000 per year) have received free sports medicine services, from emergency action planning and free physicals to injury care through a drop-in injury clinic and on-site care. Currently, nine greater Manchester (NH) high schools, several area middle schools and youth leagues receive services. 

General Statement of Duties:

The Development & Outreach Manager (MDO) is a critical leadership role within our growing organizational structure. The MDO provides cross-functional oversight and implementation of fundraising and community engagement goals and strategies. The fundraising role includes planning and executing all fundraising-related activities after collaborating with Executive Director (ED) to develop fundraising strategies, messaging and themes. This includes the planning and execution of major fundraising, annual campaigns, and events, as well as the cultivation and solicitation of prospective individual and corporate donors. The MDO will collaborate with NHMI leadership and provide guidance and support for staff regarding donor stewardship and solicitation. The community outreach/marketing role includes planning community marketing and promotions for all programs and events in a manner that supports and promotes the organization's mission and core values.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising and community outreach preferred
  • Nonprofit or donor management experience preferred

Specific Duties and Responsibilities – Development & Outreach Manager include the following. Other duties may be assigned or assumed as necessary.

  • Serve as an ambassador of the mission of NHMI/Safe Sports in interaction with the public and media personnel.
  • Collaborate with ED to plan and implement annual fundraising activities such as:
    • Identifying, nurturing and securing donors to develop a predictable array of funding sources.
    • Participating in face-to-face donor solicitation meetings
    • Implementing annual solicitation to identified supporters
    • Spearheading annual or biannual “event” to highlight and celebrate existing donors’ gifts to young athletes and identify and nurture new donors
    • Determining annual grant application schedule in collaboration with ED; maintain moderate grant writing program to support Safe Sports and other activities
  • Develop and maintain personal portfolio of donors.
  • Utilize Little Green Light donor management software according to best practices.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative community outreach plan (including timing, multiple media/formats and messaging) to increase visibility by targeting the community at large, specific individuals and private, corporate, schools and other entities.
  • Participate in a variety of community networking (e.g., social groups, Chamber events) activities to increase sponsorship opportunities; apply for special programs like Leadership Greater Manchester
  • Develop public education and information materials, presentations and displays – including contributing to newsletters, media/social media outreach and website content.
  • Evaluate, understand and report on social media and website analytics. Stay current with social media priorities and trends as they relate to philanthropy to determine the best use of human and financial resources.
  • Support other staff in fundraising efforts.
  • Manage development and outreach budget.
  • Maintain current reports submitted to the Executive Director.
