Community Support Specialist – Co-occurring ACT Team

Established in 1920, Greater Nashua Mental Health Center (GNMHC) has as its mission: empowering individuals to lead full and satisfying lives through treatment and support. Our agency provides comprehensive, evidence-based behavioral health services for individuals with mental health and/or substance misuse disorders.  We offer a wide array of services in office and community settings, serving adults and children.  As the State-designated Community Mental Health Center for Southern Hillsborough County, we serve everyone who walks in our doors, and no one is ever turned away due to the inability to pay for services.  Without our agency, many of the most vulnerable members of our community would not have access to critically needed behavioral health care.   We believe that by respecting people as they are, we can help them to become all that they wish to be.


We have a full-time opening for a Community Support Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. This position will work with a dynamic multidisciplinary treatment team that is dedicated to delivering intensive community-based support to adult clients with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and substance abuse disorders. 

Primary responsibilities include meeting with individuals within their natural environments, crisis intervention, education and assisting in removing barriers to improving functioning.  The Community Support Specialist will provide adequate supervision and supports for the client to sustain his/her current living situation, as well as working, social or other community settings of the client’s choice. The goal of these services is for the individual to attain an optimal level of functioning and a better quality of life.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and flexible team player and problem-solver who can provide the increased level of care expected in the ACT program.  A natural passion for helping others is a must!

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or Rehabilitative Services and at least 2 years of experience working closely with mentally ill adult clients and substance use disorders.  Training and experience with Evidenced Based Practices and Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) a plus!
