UNH Cooperative Extension

UNH, located in Durham, New Hampshire, with additional campuses in Concord and Manchester, is the flagship undergraduate, graduate, and research institution of the University System of New Hampshire. UNH holds land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant charters and is the only comprehensive public research, doctoral-granting institution in New Hampshire. The University enrolls 14,000 students, has a full-time faculty of 600, and offers over 95 undergraduate and 68 graduate programs in eight colleges. New Hampshire’s natural beauty includes coastal beaches, an extensive lakes region and the White Mountains. Durham is near the seacoast and about an hour from the mountains and lakes region to the north and Boston to the south.

UNH Cooperative Extension is the primary outreach unit of UNH. Its mission is to provide New Hampshire citizens with research-based education and information, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions that strengthen youth, families and communities, sustain natural resources, and improve the economy. UNH Cooperative Extension, in partnership with county, state and federal government, conducts comprehensive research-based educational programs. Its offices are headquartered on the University’s Durham campus with additional offices in each of the ten counties, where community based programming is tailored to the needs of New Hampshire citizens. There are 137 employees located throughout the state, working with over 3,000 volunteers to make a positive difference in people’s lives. The UNH Cooperative Extension budget was $16.9 million in FY14.

Under general supervision, with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service, this position will independently assist in a variety of moderately complex administrative matters. The responsibilities include providing office services related to electronic information flow, document preparation, data collection, maintenance, scheduling and customer service for the UNH Cooperative Extension Hillsborough County professionals.

This role is expected to:
1) Serve as an important contact for program information, material requests, event information/registrations and specialist referrals.

2) Compose, prepare and manage support for classes, workshops and conferences (marketing materials, registration handling, making deposits for, and generating financial, evaluation and summary reports).

3) Communicate information of educational programs and events using web site calendars and posts, digital newsletters and other means including social media.

4) Establish and coordinate electronic record management systems for complex and sensitive information.

5) Coordinate general office management activities with other Administrative Assistant positions (maintain office equipment inventory and supplies, seek assistance for repair when necessary), all while using independent judgment, problem-solving skills, and initiative.

Position is located in our Hillsborough County Office in Goffstown, NH.


Acceptable minimum level of education: HS or equivalent

Acceptable minimum years of experience: 3 years

Other minimum qualifications:

1. Three years of office experience or three years of specialized training or higher education or any combination of experience and higher education equal to three years.

2. Knowledge of office practices, procedures and use of electronic equipment.

3. Computer skills, such as word processing, e-mail, Internet, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, data-base management and software applications as required by office.

4. Effective written and oral communication skills.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.

Additional preferred qualifications:

1) Work experience in college/university environment.

2) Additional related training or education.

3) Demonstrated computer experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Programs and social media

  • Anticipate and prepare materials as needed for correspondence, appointments, meetings, telephone calls, conferences, workshop registrations, etc., and inform supervisor on matters to be considered. Responsible for answering phones, greeting and assisting walk-in clients. Serve as liaison between general public and staff.
  • Assist with events and educational programming contacts and arrangements, and handle organizational details including collecting and inputting registration data into a computerized database and running evaluation reports.
  • Seek professional development opportunities in consultation with supervisor. Willingness to keep current and learn new technologies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
