WIC Nutritionist

WIC Program


Position Summary:
The nutritionist administers nutrition services. This includes responsibility for certification of participants and development and coordination of nutrition education activities.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition Sciences.

2. Eligibility for Registered Dietician is preferred, or Registered Dietician

3. Experience in community nutrition or other health services involving women, infants and children

4. Advanced study in nutrition science or public health coursework.

5. Must have own transportation and be able to travel to all sites.

All staff are primarily responsible for the duties as outlined in their job description. However, all staff will also be expected to rotate and/or assist in any component of the program at the discretion of the Program Director and/or Assistant Director or the Program Assistant. This job can be physically demanding and requires bending, lifting, and twisting.

Responsibilities:

1. Utilizes certification criteria and standards as assess need and determine program eligibility of applicants.

2. Develops nutrition care plans and nutrition education activities for participants, taking into account food practices and family environment and resources.

3. Works with WIC Nutrition Services coordinator to develop agency nutrition education plan.

4. Provides client centered nutrition education counseling to WIC participants

5. Develops and procures nutrition education materials for participant education.

6. Provides appropriate follow-up for high-risk participants.

7. Implements follow-up on anemic clients as mandated by state regulation.

8. Provides breastfeeding support to participants, both pre- and post-natal.

9. Participates in continuing education provided by the NH State WIC Program.
