Education Coordinator

McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is an air and space museum centrally located in Concord NH, dedicated to NH space pioneers Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. Our mission is to inspire every generation to reach for the stars, through engaging, artful and entertaining activities that explore astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science.

Do you love science? Engineering? Are you enthusiastic about sharing your skills and knowledge with people of all ages? Then apply to coordinate the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s Education Team. As our Education Coordinator, you will work with our Director of Education and independently, to develop and present a wide variety of programs, exhibits and planetarium shows, on- and off-site; and train, lead, coordinate and support the efforts of our education staff and volunteers.

Learning doesn’t always happen 9 to 5! Your job will include working days, nights, weekends, some overnights with youth groups, and traveling in Northern and Central New England for outreach programs. There will also be some heavy lifting involved, as you help unpack crates and mount exhibits, set up for programs and transport our portable planetarium and telescopes.

The starting pay for this full-time position is $15/hour.

A minimum of an Associate’s degree is required, preferably in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, education, aviation or museum studies, with a demonstrated ability to teach/share scientific information with the public and work independently.

The Discovery Center’s Education Coordinator coordinates the activities of the Discovery Center’s Education Team, including developing, managing and/or implementing programs, exhibits and outreach, scheduling Education Team coverage for public hours and on- and off-site Discovery Center programs, and ensuring excellence in all of the Discovery Center’s educational offerings. The Education Coordinator serves as the on-the-ground team leader and as a primary visitor contact person at the Discovery Center.
