Step Up Parents Awarded $5,000 Grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund

Statewide — Seacoast area nonprofit Step Up Parents received a $5,000 grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund to provide financial support for kinship families raising the children of parents with substance use disorder in New Hampshire.

The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund makes grants to tax-exempt organizations without regard to religious affiliation for projects that help people in New Hampshire meet their basic needs. The Fund is operated by volunteer lay men and women who serve as Directors and who make recommendations to the Bishop of Manchester for grants to any organization in New Hampshire whose mission is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Fund raises money through solicitation of individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations.

“The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund is so pleased to be able to help Step Up Parents with direct support to grandparents and other caregiver relatives in New Hampshire that have ‘stepped up’ to help children in need,” said Tom Farrelly, chair of the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund. “Bishop Libasci and our board of directors know that helping our fellow citizens, especially the young, is an important mission of the Church.”

"We are grateful for this generous grant so that we can continue to serve kinship families in the charitable spirit of this fund and organization," said Step Up Parents Founder, Denyse Richter.

Since its founding in 2019, Step Up Parents has helped 140 families, giving over $55,000 in assistance with the help of generous grants like the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund.
