Spaulding Youth Center Receives $5,000.00 Grant from Franklin Savings Bank

Northfield – Spaulding Youth Center is excited to announce it has been honored with a grant of $5,000.00 through the FSB Fund for Community Advancement, the philanthropic arm of Franklin Savings Bank. The grant will directly support one of Spaulding’s equine therapy programs, Healing with Horses, provided through Lakes Region Riding Academy.

Susan C. Ryan, President & CEO of Spaulding Youth Center, proudly accepted the grant on behalf of Spaulding at the annual FSB Fund for Community Advancement Celebration. The organization was also the surprise recipient of Franklin Savings Bank’s Annual Richard W. DuBois Community Impact Award. This award is presented annually at the celebration to honor an organization which has made a significant impact in the Franklin and/or surrounding communities.

“On behalf of Franklin Savings Bank and the FSB Fund for Community Advancement, I am honored to award Spaulding Youth Center with this grant to support participation in the Healing with Horses program,” said Ronald L. Magoon, President & CEO of Franklin Savings Bank and member of the Spaulding Board of Directors since 2013. “Spaulding is a wonderful local organization that has served children and families in need for nearly 150 years. Their dedication to providing quality services to children and youth in need is one of the many reasons this organization deserves this grant as well as the Richard W. DuBois Community Impact Award.”

Healing with Horses provides residential students the opportunity to experience horseback riding at Lakes Region Riding Academy in Gilford, New Hampshire. Students receive personal lessons from founder Julie Lawrence once a week for a four-week session. Horseback riding and horsemanship serve as a unique and effective form of therapy for Spaulding children and youth facing behavioral, emotional and physical challenges. Children create an emotional bond with the horses and participating in this activity encourages them to build social skills and confidence in a positive atmosphere.

“Spaulding is thrilled to receive this grant and community award from Franklin Savings Bank,” said Susan C. Ryan. “The funds directly support our participation in the Healing with Horses program, which gives our students the chance to participate in a fun activity while creating positive therapeutic outcomes. We are incredibly honored to also receive the Richard W. DuBois Community Impact Award as a testament to the positive impact our organization has on the children and families we serve. Frank Savings Bank is a brilliant example of a corporate advocate and supporter that is a key component to maintain a vibrant and supportive community.”

Spaulding Youth Center is one of eight local organizations that were awarded grants through the FSB Fund for Community Advancement. This round of funding represented Franklin Savings Bank’s 42nd grant cycle. For more information about Franklin Savings Bank and the Fund for Community Advancement, visit
