Ribbon Cutting at West Side Neighborhood Health Center

Manchester - Mayor Ted Gatsas did the honors at the ribbon cutting on September 8 for the West Side Neighborhood Health Center, which is now part of Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC). The Mayor noted that many people on the West Side of Manchester are going to be able to walk to the West Side Neighborhood Health Center.

The West Side Neighborhood Health Center is located on the third floor of the Medical Office Building at 88 McGregor Street in Manchester, adjacent to Catholic Medical Center. The health center was operated for many years by Catholic Medical Center (CMC) to provide primary care health services to the medically underserved populations of Manchester. The collaboration with Manchester Community Health Center is expected to increase the capacity of the clinic from 1,000 to close to 4,000.

Holding the ribbon were Kris McCracken, President/CEO of MCHC; and Dr. Joseph Pepe, President/CEO of CMC. Dr. Pepe said, "We have to partner together if we're going to take care of the health of the population. I look forward to a long commitment and collaboration for the two organizations."

The project, which is consistent with recommendations of a 2014 neighborhood improvement plan, was made possible through $650,000 in ongoing annual funding for MCHC from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to open a clinic on the West Side. The area was identified as a priority census tract in Manchester—designated as medically underserved by HRSA—because of its high concentration of low-income housing and resettled immigrants and refugees.

MCHC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization offering comprehensive health care since 1993, expanding the organization’s reach in Manchester. As a FQHC, MCHC offers high-quality, comprehensive, and family-oriented primary health care and support services to eliminate health disparities and expand access to care.
