NH Center for Nonprofits to receive New Hampshire Advantage Award

The BIA will recognize the important work of the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits at its 99th Annual Dinner, Lifetime Achievement and New Hampshire Advantage Awards Celebration planned for Oct. 24.

Concord - At its 99th Annual Dinner, Lifetime Achievement and New Hampshire Advantage Awards Celebration to be held Oct. 24 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel/Center of New Hampshire in Manchester, the Business and Industry Association will recognize and honor the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits with the 2012 New Hampshire Advantage Award.

Established in 2006, the New Hampshire Advantage Award honors businesses, organizations or projects that enhance New Hampshire’s special character and quality of life in meaningful ways.

The New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits is a nonprofit, statewide organization providing a variety of programs and resources that support New Hampshire’s important and integral nonprofit sector. Its mission is to strengthen and give voice to the nonprofit sector in New Hampshire through leadership, collaboration and learning opportunities.

With conferences, topic forums, executive peer circles and educational seminars, the center engages more than 2,200 nonprofit leaders a year in a variety of innovative programs that address their operational needs and provide important networking opportunities. The center partners with sector leaders, businesses and the broader community to elevate the visibility and status of the nonprofit sector.

Nonprofits employ one out of seven New Hampshire workers, contribute 15.1 percent to the gross state product and leverage the power of close to 300,000 volunteers. The nonprofit sector helps fuel the economy in many ways: through preservation of natural resources and historic destinations that sustain tourism; by maintaining livable, safe towns and a quality educational system, which support business recruitment efforts; and through educational and social programs that contribute to a skilled workforce and healthy consumer marketplace.

The center was chosen as the 2012 award recipient for its work to strengthen the nonprofit sector and advance the capacity of individual nonprofit businesses to succeed.

In 2012, the center launched NonprofitNext, a platform offering resources, tools, online training and cost savings on products for nonprofits. NonprofitNext, which is a partnership with CCA Global’s subsidiary, CCA for Social Good, signed on more than 1,000 users during its first year.

The center’s Web site offers a breadth of news, resources, funding alerts, legislative news and more, with site traffic that averages more than 52,000 page views a month.

Among the center’s programs are: the Annual Nonprofit Leadership Summit, NH Board Network, Nonprofit Capitol Exchange, Nonprofit Public Policy Council, critical issue forums, executive peer forums, the Sounding Board, In the Boardroom, Grants Institute, the Nonprofit Wage and Benefit Report, a daily help desk and more.

Past New Hampshire Advantage Award recipients include the New Hampshire Humanities Council, New Hampshire Food Bank, Easter Seals New Hampshire, the 2-1-1 New Hampshire Partnership, New Hampshire Political Library and a core group of supporters that worked to prevent closure of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process.
