Advocacy Alert: Support SB 112 to fully repeal the ability of New Hampshire gaming operators to charge rent to charities.
December 18, 2023
The NH House will be in session the first week of 2024 on January 3 and 4. Included on the calendar is SB 112, a charitable gaming bill from the prior year.
As amended, SB 112 would fully repeal the ability of New Hampshire gaming operators to charge rent to charities. The NH Center for Nonprofits supports rent repeal and urges stakeholders to connect with their Representatives to vote for SB 112 as amended.
The bill as amended also: repeals that 75% of employees at race tracks be New Hampshire residents, an obsolete requirement; limits additional Historic Horse Racing machine licenses to current licensees plus potential licensees already in the queue; and repeals the sunset on simulcast racing. The bill as amended was recommended ought to pass by House Ways and Means by a vote of 18-1 on November 9.
To share your support for repealing rents charged to charities, please call or email your Representative before January 3 and ask them to support the committee recommendation of ought to pass.
Key Points in Support of Rent Repeal:
- Gaming in New Hampshire exists to support charities who are providing essential services and enhancing our communities;
- Rents have been inconsistent and uneven throughout different regions with some rents significantly eroding revenue to charities; and
- Charities should not be paying rents to enrich gaming operators.
