2023 Yearend Reflections

Dear Center Members, Sponsors, and Supporters,

As 2023 comes to a close and we reflect upon the year, I’m reminded of the many ways the power of community inspires and amplifies our work. Community is a core value at the Center and is at the heart of everything we do.

Our growing network of 800+ members includes nonprofit organizations as well as corporate and individual members who share our view that a vibrant and connected nonprofit sector is essential to the state’s vitality. According to Keryn Kriegl, Project and Relationship Manager, the Center has achieved remarkable success through strategic partnerships with consultants, corporate members, sponsors, and member-benefit partners, marking a period of significant growth and support for our nonprofit members.

Together, we continue to elevate the profile of nonprofits through our advocacy, raising our collective voices around property tax issues, charitable gaming policies, and streamlining government contracting. We also elevated the visibility of the sector through inspirational programs like NH Gives and  Nonprofit Impact Celebration.

This year, NHGives raised $3.5 million for a record-breaking 610 NH nonprofits, and more than 5,000 donations were identified as being from first-time donors. In total, the NHGives initiative has raised over $15.7 million for NH nonprofits since 2016. It was an amazing year and we thank everyone who participated, donated, and sponsored this year’s event.

In-person events are back in full force. In 2023, our large in-person convenings brought together over 600 members and community partners for networking, dialogue, and education. From the Impact Celebration to the Nonprofit Conference and Expo and Leadership Summit, the rooms were filled with nonprofit professionals, volunteers, and advocates eager to make connections and expand their knowledge.

In closing, want to take this time to thank all of you, our members, sponsors, and supporters, for the many ways you contribute to our communities and create opportunities for people to thrive. We are truly fortunate to have a strong, connected nonprofit sector serving New Hampshire. We look forward to seeing you soon in 2024.

Reflections on the NH Center for Nonprofits’ Signature Events from Kelly Wing, Program Manager at the NH Center for Nonprofits

In 2023, our large in-person convenings brought together over 600 members and community partners for networking, dialogue, and education.

In April, the Nonprofit Impact Celebration showcased NH’s nonprofit community and honored the vision and dedication of the sector. NFI North and Belknap House received Nonprofit Impact Awards. Kerry Norton, Executive Director of Hope on Haven Hill, received the New Hampshire Impact Award and Douglas Hall and Kate Griffiths Harrison received Board Impact Awards. The uplifting evening was a fitting tribute to the members of the NH Center for Nonprofits and a wonderful opportunity to visit with colleagues and friends.

In May, the sold-out NH Nonprofit Conference & Expo featured 26 workshops presented by subject experts on a range of topics important to nonprofit staff and board members. Over 20 exhibitors also supported the event and were on hand to discuss products and services helping nonprofits build capacity. In the post-event evaluation, over 96% of attendees said they had gained new ideas and 100% said they had made new connections with colleagues.

In September, the Nonprofit Leadership Summit united nonprofit board and staff leaders, along with corporate and philanthropic partners to explore trends and issues around the theme “Focus on the Future – Sparking Innovation and Leading Change”. Keynote Speaker Garry Golden offered a thought-provoking talk on “Thinking like a Futurist to Anticipate Change and Lead Innovation” and afternoon sessions highlighted the innovative work of NH nonprofits in areas such as innovation and equity in the boardroom, advancing employee well-being, and creative strategies for operational funding.

Thank you to everyone who came out to a signature event in 2023. We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon at our upcoming events.

Reflections from Keryn Kriegl, Project & Relationship Manager at the NH Center for Nonprofits

In 2023, the Center had a year of significant growth and support for nonprofit members  through strategic partnerships with consultants, corporate members, sponsors, and member-benefit partners.

Our collaboration with consultants has significantly enriched our educational programs and nonprofit resources, covering a spectrum of areas such as board development, strategic planning, fundraising, human resources, organizational culture, finance, and technology. These partnerships empowered nonprofits to expand their capacities and fortify their organizations with expert guidance.

The contributions of our corporate members have been pivotal in sustaining our growth. These partnerships have not only opened new avenues for our organization but have also created mutually beneficial opportunities for our nonprofit members and corporate partners alike.

This year, we introduced monthly Center Membership Q&A session. Hosted on the first Thursday of each month, Q&A session expose our nonprofit members to a wide range of available Center resources including the free Board Self-Assessment, the employment hotline, free job postings, and discounted subscriptions for GrantStation, BoardSource and POINT. Since the launch of the Member Q&A sessions, we have seen an increase in the utilization of these resources by our members, demonstrating the tangible benefits our partnerships bring to the nonprofit community.

As we reflect on this year's achievements, the success of our collaborative efforts emphasizes the importance of shared endeavors. Looking forward, our commitment remains strong to nurture these relationships, drive innovation, and deliver even greater value to our nonprofit members in the upcoming year.
