Founded in 1970, the Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC) is a private non-profit conservation organization dedicated to conserving land, water and wildlife in twenty-six communities in southern New Hampshire.  We accomplish our mission by permanently protecting undeveloped land through the acquisition of property or conservation easements.  Once protected, we monitor and manage the land to ensure the perpetual conservation of natural resources and, in most cases, public access for outdoor recreation and education.  To date PLC has conserved 142 properties totaling almost and 10,300 acres.  To learn more about us, visit www.plcnh.org.

The Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC) has an immediate opening for a full-time Stewardship Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Specific responsibilities of the Stewardship Assistant will include assisting with annual property monitoring, preparation of property management plans and Baseline Documentation Reports, GIS mapping, boundary line maintenance, invasive species control and habitat management, volunteer training and coordination, trail construction and maintenance, and conducting site visits to potential land protection project sites.  The position will also include occasional assistance on current land conservation projects and coordinating projects and partnerships that increase community engagement with our properties and organization. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A working understanding of the New Hampshire landscape, including natural communities, natural and land use history.
  • Experience navigating in the woods with GPS and/or map & compass
  • Experience with ArcGIS, including basic map-making and analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, especially letter writing
  • Excellent face-to-face interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of current issues and emerging trends in the land stewardship/management field
  • Ability to work alone on assigned tasks after training
  • College degree in a relevant field preferred
  • At least one year of full time, or equivalent part time, experience with conservation land stewardship or land protection work  preferred
  • Must live locally or have pre-arranged housing
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation
