Description

The Staff Accountant is an integral member of the finance team, responsible for a wide range of accounting functions that support the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial operations. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial records, managing grant reporting, supporting audits, and contributing to process improvement efforts. In this role, the Staff Accountant must be detail-oriented, well-versed in accounting principles, and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. This is a full time, 40 hour per week position. 

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties

  • Maintain a strong understanding of general ledger financial transactions and their impact on the organization’s financial statements.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and perform account reconciliations.
  • Propose and prepare adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Manage grants, including data collection from various sources, maintaining supporting documentation, and monthly grant invoicing to the State.
  • Maintain vendor relationships to support departmental needs.
  • Administer the organization’s employee expense and credit card expense platform.
  • Assist in bi-weekly payroll processing, including maintaining related general ledger journal entries.
  • Serve as a key contributor to internal and external audits.
  • Support month-end close activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing changes to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Engages in appropriate meetings and committees, both internally and externally, as determined by supervisor.
  • Executes all required functions in accordance with agency policies, federal and state standards.
  • Functions professionally and represent CLM in a professional and appropriate manner in all settings.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in accounting or finance; emphasis on general ledger accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Highly proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office applications with a strong emphasis in proficiency using Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to problem solve, multi-task, and manage competing tasks while attending to details and adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in routine, urgent, and emergent administrative tasks.
  • Ability to acquire and effectively execute new skills as needed according to evolving department needs.
