Description

Job Summary:   

Supports the facilities department by cleaning and maintaining spaces throughout Families in Transition owned and operated properties. 

 

Essential Functions:  

Under the general direction of the Facilities Manager, and within established policies and procedures, the Property Custodian performs the following functions: 

  •  Perform a variety of general custodial responsibilities. Ensures common areas in all buildings, including housing and offices, are maintained for cleanliness; including but not limited to vacuuming, washing floors, sweeping, dusting, wiping rails, washing walls and windows, picking up litter and cigarettes outside buildings, sweeping walkways and parking lot areas.  
  • Assist Facilities Technicians as needed with completion of apartment turnovers and repairs. Tasks may include but are not limited to painting, sheetrock repair, bulk trash removal, and appliance/furniture moving.
  • Safely operate and maintain powered commercial cleaning equipment. Including but not limited to; vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, and buffers. Refer damaged equipment for repair and recommend replacement as necessary.  
  • Monitor areas of responsibility for any safety deficiencies including but not limited to, failed light bulbs, inoperable or damaged fire/smoke detectors, failed emergency lighting, signs of water damage to ceilings and walls, and expired fire extinguishers. Escalate deficiencies to Facilities Management for resolution. 
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies, notify Facilities Manager of low stock. 
  • Ensure timely and thorough cleaning of apartments at the time of turnover. Following standard procedures required for apartment turnover. Ensure all items and tasks are completed in preparation for move-in. 
  • Open and close facilities by disabling and enabling facility security alarm systems.  Responsible for ensuring buildings are secured against unauthorized access during and after completion of cleaning duties. 
  • Perform various general landscaping duties as directed or assigned, including but not limited to operating snow blowers, string trimmers, Gas mowers, and various landscaping hand tools. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Minimum Requirements (Education/Experience/Certificates/Licenses): 

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Requires the ability to travel to various Families in Transition locations in Manchester and Concord. 
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull and move objects up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to work in extremely cold and hot environments. 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 1 year of cleaning, janitorial, or trades experience preferred.
