About the Organization

The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester is a 100+ year old private non-profit organization with our mission being to reach out to all young people ages 6-18 years, with special concern given to kids who needs us most, providing programs and services that enable our members to become productive, responsible and caring individuals. We currently offer programs at 3 sites during the school year and a Day Camp program during the out of school summer months. We have an annual membership of between 1500 and 2000 boys and girls with an average daily attendance of approximately 450 members during the school year and 350 campers during the Summer Day Camp Program. We offer a wide variety of programs in five core areas with a special focus on academic achievement, healthy lifestyles and character & leadership development.

The Maintenance Assistant supports the upkeep, repair, safety, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the organization’s facilities, both interior and exterior. This role ensures a safe, welcoming, and high-quality environment for members and staff. This is a part-time position, Monday - Friday. 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
 

  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with light maintenance duties, including painting, wall repair, and grounds upkeep such as snow removal and lawn care.
  • Support the maintenance team to ensure that all facilities remain safe, clean, and well-maintained for members and staff.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety practices and proper use of cleaning materials. Contribute to creating an attractive, welcoming environment while prioritizing safety at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or certification in a related trade preferred.
  • Experience in facility maintenance or management, preferably in a youth or recreation-based environment, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of maintenance experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proper use of cleaning materials.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
  • Ability to pass criminal background screening. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Perform physical tasks including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, running, lifting, talking, and hearing, up to and including snow shoveling.
  • Work occurs both indoors and outdoors in moderate noise environments. Accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, with lighter weights frequently.
  • Visual acuity required for tasks at or within arm’s reach.
