The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester is a 100+ year old private non-profit organization with our mission being to reach out to all young people ages 6-18 years, with special concern given to kids who needs us most, providing programs and services that enable our members to become productive, responsible and caring individuals. We currently offer programs at 3 sites during the school year and a Day Camp program during the out of school summer months. We have an annual membership of between 1500 and 2000 boys and girls with an average daily attendance of approximately 450 members during the school year and 350 campers during the Summer Day Camp Program. We offer a wide variety of programs in five core areas with a special focus on academic achievement, healthy lifestyles and character & leadership development.
About the Job
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Tween Director supports the Tween Director in developing and delivering engaging, age-appropriate programs for members ages 9–12. This role helps implement a diverse curriculum that introduces tweens to the arts, education, technology, sports, life skills, and leadership opportunities, while fostering a safe, positive, and supportive environment. This position is a 32-hour per week position that is benefit eligible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the delivery of tween programs, activities, and events as directed by the Tween Director.
- Help supervise and support members, ensuring safety, positive behavior, and adherence to Club policies.
- Contribute to the implementation of BGCM program activity standards.
- Collaborate with staff from other Club departments and community partners to create meaningful joint programs and events.
- Participate in program evaluation and outcome measurement, including pre/post testing and attendance scanning.
- Maintain program spaces by ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-equipped with necessary materials and resources.
- Take part in individual and group supervision sessions as well as professional development opportunities.
- Serve as a positive role model for tweens, inspiring them to learn, grow, and realize their full potential. Perform additional duties as assigned to support Club operations and programming.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES NEEDED
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience working with youth in education, recreation, or academic support.
- Knowledge of youth development principles.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain/maintain).
- Ability to pass required background screenings.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic web competency.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a youth-centered, customer-friendly approach.
- Professional, respectful, and team-oriented with the ability to collaborate with tweens, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to remain calm, positive, and professional in high-energy or stressful situations.
- Flexibility to support after-school hours, school vacation programs, and summer camp.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Actively engage in recreational and educational activities with tweens.
- Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies to ensure member safety.
- Maintain energy, focus, and professionalism during extended shifts in lively or high-energy settings.
- Lift and carry 25–50 lbs. of supplies or equipment as needed.
- Perform routine physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and reaching.
- Operate standard office equipment including phones, computers, and copiers.
