About the Organization
SELT protects and sustains the significant lands in our communities for clean water, outdoor recreation, fresh food, wildlife, and healthy forests. Founded in 1980, SELT has partnered with landowners and communities throughout our 52-community region to conserve more than 25,000 acres of land through conservation easements and fee ownerships. These lands include more than 10,000 acres owned by SELT with 60+ miles of woods roads and trails, all open for public recreation. SELT has active programs in land conservation, easement stewardship, land management, community outreach, and nature-based education. SELT is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.
SELT’s offices are located at the beautiful, net-zero and brand-new Nan and George Mathey Center for People and Nature, located on the 237-acre Burley Farms in Epping, NH, and part of a conserved block of land along the Wild and Scenic Lamprey River that is more than 500 acres. Staff members have access to miles of trails for hiking, birdwatching, and more.
About the Job
Events and Outreach Specialist (Full-time, Salary)
The Events and Outreach Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing SELT’s major events and outreach programming including field trips, workshops, and seminars. The Events and Outreach Specialist also supports the organization’s event fundraising activities through the management, stewardship, and solicitation of event sponsors, She/he/they also provides administrative support to SELT’s Volunteer Program.
Responsibilities
- Manages, schedules, and coordinates all SELT public outreach events, including, field trips, programs, workshops, and Mathey Center programming
- Develops and implements calendar of public engagement events that represents the scope of SELT’s mission
- Responds to and manages public inquiries and registrations
- Coordinates all aspects of SELT’s major fundraising events, including Wild & Scenic Film Festival, The Conservation Celebration and Annual Meeting, and TrailFest including:
- Serving on event planning committees
- Creating program schedules
- Coordinating necessary equipment, venue, staff, volunteers, and contractors
- Managing registrations, waitlists, and communications to registrants
- Securing permits, as may be needed
- Works with Outreach and Education Director to create sponsorship program, solicit, secure, and steward business sponsors
- Works with SELT’s communication team to market all events
- Works with Stewardship team and hired contractors to prep sites for events and programs, as needed
- Coordinates inquiries, applications, collateral, and volunteers for SELT’s presence at public events like Apple Harvest Day
- When needed, represents SELT at public outreach events
- Supports successful administration of SELT’s vibrant volunteer program, including
- Communicates to and recruits volunteers for events and outreach offerings
- Works with SELT staff to create Volunteer Role Descriptions
- Recruits and schedules volunteers for specific tasks as requested by staff
- Onboards, trains, and supports volunteers in relation to their assigned tasks
- Is available to field last minute calls, texts, and/or emails for day of trouble shooting as needed up to and during each outreach program
- Is responsible for timely data entry and tracking of appropriate metrics
- Works with Outreach and Education Director to track expenses and revenue related to areas of responsibility, and achieve event budget goals

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is a must
- Written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to convey SELT’s mission to diverse groups including potential donors, volunteers, Board members, the public, and others
- Ability to solicit businesses for sponsorship support following sufficient training
- Ability to successfully manage outside vendors and contractors
- Ability to deliver high quality programs as per agreed upon deadlines & specifications
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and weeknight hours
- Fluent with Microsoft 365, especially Teams, Sharepoint, Outlook and the suite of Office apps
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
- Work is performed in a typical office setting, with a portion of work to be done in the field as needed
- This is an exempt (salaried) position; time and hours needed to complete assigned duties will flex up and down depending on workload
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree; conservation related degree preferred but not required
- Experience in hospitality industry, event execution, and/or events planning preferred
- Experience with and knowledge of Salesforce and/or donor databases
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers
- Knowledge of nonprofit organization operations
- Patience for working with a diverse range of volunteers and event attendees
Start Date and Compensation
Competitive salary commensurate with level of directly relevant experience, with a starting range of $42,000 to $50,000. Benefits package includes health insurance plan; long-term and short-term disability insurance; employee match to 403(b)(7) retirement plan; and paid vacation, sick time, and holidays. Free solar powered EV charging is available on site for SELT employees.
