About the Organization

Amoskeag Health, formerly Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC), is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) federally qualified health center offering high-quality, comprehensive, and family-oriented primary health care and support services since 1993. Now known as The Dr. Selma Deitch Center for Children and Teens, Child Health Services (CHS) is the original pediatric practice of MCHC dedicated to improving the health and well-being of at-risk children. In June of 2019, all locations of MCHC consolidated under one name, Amoskeag Health. Through all its programs, Amoskeag Health serves over 14,579 patients annually across four locations in Manchester.

This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.

Primary care, preventive care, outreach and enabling services at Amoskeag Health are supported in part by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Health Center Cluster grant number H80CS00571. This grant provides approximately 15% of total revenue.

Description
  • Qualifications:

    Education: 

    • NH Board of Registration in Optometry
    • Licensed as a Doctor of Optometry

    Experience: 

    • 1-2 years post-doctoral work experience as an Optometrist
    • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Portuguese
    • Experience working with culturally diverse demographic patient populations

       
  • Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $124,800 per year and can increase depending on experience. There is a sign-on bonus for this position. Sign-on bonuses are contingent upon active employment status and a positive performance review.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Provide comprehensive eye care to patients of the Health Center including, but not limited to: Examine and diagnose vision problems and eye diseases; Test visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes; Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and provide vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation; Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
    • Prepares and reviews medical histories and obtains data through interviews. Examines patients, formulates diagnostic plans, defines and orders/administers required diagnostic testing. Interprets examination findings and test results, and implements treatment plans.
    • Administer topical and oral medications to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribe medications to treat diseases of the eye, eyelids and adnexa, as permitted by the State of NH Optometry Practice Act; Test visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the ; Provide preoperative and postoperative office visit care to cataract patients or other eye surgery; Diagnose conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to other health practitioners as needed.     • Document office visits within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) according to protocol and to communicate appropriately with referring medical providers; Participate in the formulation and evaluation of applicable protocols. Ensure correct coding of services provided.
    • Meet or exceed the Health Center’s annual productivity goal specified within the Physician Contract. Maintain an assigned schedule necessary that meets or exceeds the Center’s annual minimum expected patient expectations: The minimum expected number of patient visits to be seen by a regular full time equivalent (1.0 FTE) Optometrist is 3,520 (three thousand five hundred and twenty) or up to 1,584 (one thousand five hundred eighty-four) clinical hours/week over the course of 1 (one) year. The expected number of patient visits and number of clinical hours per year is prorated for those working less than full time.
