Overview:
Cross Roads House, the second largest low-barrier homeless shelter in New Hampshire is seeking its next dynamic Director of Advancement. We are a 117-bed, 43-year-old, $4.3 million dollar organization with 33 employees serving the Seacoast communities in NH and southern ME.
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Advancement serves as a key member of Cross Roads House’s leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization.
In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising, development, marketing and communications activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build Cross Roads House’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Director of Advancement will be responsible for establishing the infrastructure needed to grow a $4.3M annual budget through the solicitation of major gifts, state and municipal grants, special events, corporate sponsorship, and foundation support. The Director of Advancement will expand and diversify Cross Roads House's donor base and work closely with the Board, volunteers, and consultants to secure funding for new initiatives including an upcoming Capital Campaign.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following represents a list of essential duties and responsibilities; other duties may be assigned as required.
- Lead the Development Team in advancing Cross Roads House’s fundraising goals (annual and capital) and building a strong corps of volunteer leaders
- Partner with the CEO and volunteer leadership on designing development strategies
- Devise, implement, and track development activity designed to individually and systematically interest, engage, and secure support from a wide range of prospects
- Manage a portfolio of 125+ individual and institutional prospects and donors, and create tailored solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship strategies
- Shape key development-related messages through the direction and preparation of letters of intent, proposals, and other materials for major prospects and donors
- Research, engage, and qualify prospects, including re-qualifying the current philanthropic interests and gift potential of lapsed donors
- Monitor all donor information, giving history, and activity in Raiser’s Edge; maintain a robust donor pipeline
- Oversee strategic external communications and marketing to elevate donor understanding of our community impact and to increase community awareness of our organization

Managerial Responsibilities:
- Supervise 3 direct reports
- Set performance goals and project deadlines
- Organize workflow, delegate work to employees, track progress against benchmarks and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Monitor employee productivity, address concerns with work quality, and other concerns in an effective, timely manner
Ideal Technical Skills and Qualifications:
- 10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization
- A proven track record in major gift fundraising and campaign leadership (managing and forging relationships across multiple philanthropic sources)
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan
- Experience utilizing Raiser’s Edge or comparable CRM is essential
- Experience managing an assigned portfolio of donors is essential
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
- Strong understanding of communications strategy, brand management and media relations.
- Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical advancement initiatives
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player; ability to productively engage others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Cross Roads House
- High energy and passion for Cross Roads House's mission is essential
- Strong organizational skills
Education/Certifications/Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
