Caregivers was founded in 1988 by a group of community members who saw a need for volunteer services to supplement services that were unaffordable or unavailable locally. The program presently includes 375 volunteers who serve 283 clients. Caregivers also operates the Loaner’s Closet for Durable Medical Equipment, founded in 2002, which provides free durable medical equipment loans to the public and accepts gently-used donations.
Non-profit volunteer caregiving group operating in seven towns in the Greater Derry Area. Volunteers are trained to work in their home communities with the elderly and disabled, chronically or temporarily ill. Tasks include light chores, shopping, transportation, friendly visiting, light respite, yard work and home repair. All services are free of charge.

Community Caregivers of Greater Derry (CCGD) is a vibrant nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting homebound individuals through a compassionate, volunteer-driven network. Our exceptional team of volunteers empowers clients across Chester, Danville, Derry, Londonderry, Hampstead, Sandown, and Windham to maintain their independence and quality of life within their own homes and communities. Services are provided free of charge and include transportation to medical appointments, light chores, friendly visits, respite care, grocery shopping, home repairs, yard work, and telephone reassurance.
Founded in 1988 by visionary community members, CCGD was established to address the need for affordable and accessible volunteer services that were previously unavailable in the area. Today, the program boasts 408 dedicated volunteers who serve 297 clients. Additionally, CCGD operates the Loaner’s Closet for Durable Medical Equipment, launched in 2002, which offers free medical equipment loans to the public and accepts donations of gently used items.
Position Summary
The Community Services Coordinator is a part-time role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Community Caregivers of Greater Derry’s volunteer caregiving program. This includes recruiting, onboarding, and supervising volunteers to support the agency’s mission of empowering homebound individuals to remain independent in their homes and communities. The coordinator also assesses and screens potential clients, conducts home-intake interviews, coordinates volunteer-client matches, and ensures accurate program documentation. As the primary liaison between clients and volunteers, the coordinator fosters strong relationships and delivers exemplary customer service, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism. This role reports directly to the Executive Director and plays a pivotal part in advancing the agency’s goals.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Recruit volunteers through community outreach, social media, corporate partnerships, and public presentations.
- Screen potential volunteers, conduct orientations, and provide supervision throughout their engagement with the agency.
- Match volunteers with clients based on client needs and volunteer interests, offering ongoing support for these relationships.
- Maintain accurate and organized volunteer and client program files, along with program databases.
- Respond to inquiries from prospective clients and volunteers via phone and email.
- Assess prospective clients' eligibility for caregiving assistance and maintain a waitlist of appropriate candidates.
- Conduct home visits for new clients, ensuring they understand program guidelines and procedures.
- Regularly review and revise program policies and procedures as needed.
- Develop and nurture professional relationships with clients, volunteers, community partners, and referral agency staff.
- Organize and oversee volunteer training sessions and recognition events.
- Collaborate with program staff to coordinate service projects, special events, and minor project requests.
- Assist with planning and managing outreach initiatives, including holiday giving campaigns and free monthly learning sessions.
- Perform other tasks as required and support cross-training efforts across program areas.

Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 2 years of professional experience managing volunteer programs working with older adults or volunteers OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
General Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and meet CCGD’s insurance requirements.
- Must meet CCGD’s background screening requirements.
Skill Requirements
- Proven experience in working with older adults and/or managing volunteers.
- Exceptional organizational abilities and strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated capability to establish and nurture relationships with volunteers, clients, and community partners.
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Skilled in prioritizing tasks, exercising sound judgment, adapting to changing circumstances, and finding creative solutions to problems.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office 365 (particularly Excel) and experience with client and volunteer management databases.
Physical Demands and work environments
The employee must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop and lift up to 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Regular interruptions are common. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their duties.
This position is a part-time hourly position, generally Monday through Friday, between 9 AM to 3 PM (or 8:30 AM to 2:30PM - there is flexibility). However, occasional evening and weekend time may be required to meet program and/or organizational needs. Some remote workdays may be possible upon request after a probationary period.
Benefits & Wages
$24 an hour. Two weeks paid vacation and one week paid sick time to start. Thirteen paid federal holidays.
