JOB SUMMARY 

The Episcopal Church of New Hampshire is in search of a skilled and dynamic Communications Specialist to produce engaging content to share good news within and beyond the diocese. This will include creating visually interesting, relevant, and timely content for our social media channels; creating and sending our monthly newsletters; and supporting our website and website hosting program for our congregations. This hybrid, part-time (.5 FTE) position reports to the Canon to the Ordinary. Communications direction and strategy will be determined by a communications consultant, with whom the communications specialist will work closely to implement communications priorities, branding and messaging, content creation. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media 

  • Work with the communications consultant to execute social media strategy across social
    platforms, aligned with diocesan priority messaging.
  • Manage social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and content calendar to make sure postings are timely, relevant, and engaging
  • Create social media content that is consistent with brand standards, style guide, and online voice
  • Research and stay current with emerging social media practices and trends
  • Contribute ideas and strategies to increase social media following and engagement
  • Engage with followers on social media channels, monitor and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner
  • Track and analyze monthly social media analytics and create monthly social media report
  • Live post to social media channels during large diocesan events such as the Diocesan Convention

Newsletters and Email

  • Collaborate with staff and community to develop and write stories and collect other newsworthy material for biweekly and monthly newsletters
  • Create and send event invitations and reminders 

Website 

  • Assist with updates to the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire’s website to keep it accurate, fresh, and reflective of our ministries and communications priorities.
  • Coordinate the diocesan website hosting program – supporting the congregations who participate in this program for hosting and developing their websites. Onboarding new congregations as needed.

KNOWLEDGE (must be proficient at entry)

  • Hands-on experience with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube, with a portfolio of published social media content on at least two of those channels
  • Hands-on experience with Canva
  • Hands-on experience creating and sending newsletters with Mailchimp
  • Hands-on experience with a social media platforms manager such as Hootsuite or Later
  • Hands-on experience creating and editing video
  • Experience building or updating websites in Squarespace
  • Experience with applications (airtable or other) for content planning and communications calendaring

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to take initiative, employ good judgment, and manage projects from beginning to end
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional ability to manage details
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to anticipate next steps or needs
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Understands digital media and web/social media management and measurement tools
  • Deep curiosity about and knowledge of trends in marketing and media; ability to recognize the impact of new technologies and platforms and how best to use these to drive performance
  • Thorough understanding of religious faith and how faith shapes culture (knowledge and understanding of the Episcopal Church a plus)
  • Ability to work in person in Concord, NH at least one day per week, and to attend occasional diocesan events around New Hampshire on weekends.
