Job Posting: High School Transition Teacher with Student Internship Support Focus
Overview: Second Start Alternative High School is seeking a dynamic and passionate High School Transition Teacher to join our team. A suitable candidate would be dedicated to preparing students for successful transitions into the workforce through student internship experiences supplemented by teaching Transition Employment Training (T.E.T.) classes. This position plays a crucial role in equipping high school students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in professional settings. The candidate will also be the lead teacher for Physical Education and a support teacher for Transition Education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement curriculum focused on career readiness, workplace skills, and internship preparation using provided competencies.
- Facilitate classroom activities that simulate real-world workplace scenarios, including teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Identify and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to secure internship placements for students by networking in the community and meeting with potential partners.
- Match students with appropriate internship opportunities based on their career interests and skills.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to students and internship partners (placements) during their internship experiences, ensuring they meet learning objectives and professional development goals.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress throughout internships, providing constructive feedback and addressing any challenges that arise.
- Develop and implement comprehensive physical education curriculum aligned with competencies and performance indicators.
- Promote physical fitness, skill development, and sportsmanship.
- Incorporate age-appropriate activities and games that cater to diverse student abilities and interests.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate individual student needs and learning styles.
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Grading and reporting for classes as lead teacher.
- Supporting in Transition Education and being the first line of substitution for the lead teacher being out.
Qualifications:
- School counselor or special education certification preferred, but not required.
- Proven ability to effectively engage and motivate high school students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to build relationships with students, parents, community partners and employers.
- Knowledge of internship programs, workforce trends, and educational resources related to career readiness.
- Transporting students to and from field trips, job related opportunities, community service, etc. This includes going through our training process for small school bus certification.
- Teaching small classes and the associated responsibilities (grading, developing and implementing curriculum, etc.)
