REACH Crisis Services is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, human trafficking, and child abuse.
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and trauma-informed Shelter Advocate to join our team. This critical role provides direct support to survivors living in our shelter, creating a safe and welcoming environment while offering advocacy, crisis intervention, and empowerment-based support.
As a Shelter Advocate, you’ll help residents meet their goals by supporting their emotional well-being, connecting them with community resources, and facilitating a healing, supportive space.
Duties
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, human trafficking, and child abuse.
- Assist clients in developing personalized safety plans tailored to their specific situations.
- Facilitate access to community resources, including legal assistance, housing, and healthcare services.
- Conduct assessments to identify clients' needs and create action plans for support.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress, and referrals in compliance with confidentiality policies.
- Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to enhance service delivery for clients.
- Foster a supportive and safe shelter environment.
- Develop and lead educational, skill-building, social, and support groups tailored to resident needs.
- Maintain day-to-day shelter operations, including cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Ensure documentation and reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Skills
Candidates for the Shelter Advocate position should possess the following skills:
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and community partners.
- Ability to handle crisis situations with sensitivity and calmness.
- Excellent organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Must be available for on-call shift rotation during night and weekends as scheduled.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Live within 30 minutes of Manchester.
