About the Job
North Country Education Services (NCES), a non-profit educational agency in northern New Hampshire, provides special education related services to school districts in northern New Hampshire.
The School Psychologist works to assess, identify, and provide intervention strategies for learning and psychological challenges experienced by children ages 3-21. The School Psychologist will collaborate with district teams to improve academic achievement, promote positive behavior and mental health, support diverse learners, create safe and positive school climates, and improve school-wide assessment and accountability through interpretation of data.
Responsibilities:
- Complete psycho-educational evaluations, analyze results and write reports for students who have been referred through a special education or Section 504 process
- Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans including recommending specific goals, accommodations/modifications, and services for students who experience disorders requiring specialized instruction or accommodations
- Participate in eligibility, initial and annual IEP/504 meetings, and other meetings as deemed appropriate by the Building Principal and/or Director of Student Services
- Consult with and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring students suspected of having learning challenges
- Keep abreast of special education procedures and best practices in school psychology and mental/behavioral health practice as part of the continuing professional development process
- Maintain an inventory of materials, assessments, and therapy supplies
- Maintain an accurate time-record for each assigned school district (if multiple)
All assessment materials are provided. Frequent contact with fellow school psychologists is available through collaborative evaluations and monthly peer supervision meetings.
The ideal candidate should be independent but motivated by working as a member of the team, organized, show initiative, and have an up-to-date and confident knowledge of evaluation theory, tools, and practices.
North Country Education Services is in Gorham, NH and serves the school districts in the northern half of the state. Benefits
Competitive salary. Full time employees of NCES are enrolled in the NH Retirement System. Health insurance is 85% employer supported. A dental reimbursement of $500 annually.
Job Requirements
Education: Minimum of a master’s degree from a recognized university with major study in the discipline. Preference will be given to graduates of NASP-approved Ed.S or doctoral programs. Candidates must be certified or certifible by the NH Department of Education as a School Psychologist. Psychologists licensed by the Board of Psychologists through the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification will be considered depending on professional experience in the field of public education.
Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in a broad range of psychological assessments and interventions working with children in agency or public-school settings is preferred.
