New Beginnings is committed to ending domestic and sexual violence through service provision to victim/survivors, community education, and prevention work focused on breaking the generational cycle of violence.

Job Summary: The Prevention Educator provides prevention and outreach interventions in Belknap County with a focus on primary prevention through educational programs to community members, schools, and organizations. The overall objective of the Prevention Educator is to stimulate change related to violence prevention through education and advocacy.

Essential Functions:

· Facilitate and present best practice prevention programs on sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking to preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and college students

· Assure education programming is culturally and linguistically competent

· Develop and implement evaluation methods for prevention programs, trainings, and special projects

· Develop new curricula, presentations, and activities for students, community members, and professionals as identified through needs assessments, surveys, and evaluation of current programs

· Strengthen and develop relationships with schools

· Provide educational programs to community members and professional organizations

· Provide direct services and supports for students whose lives have been affected by domestic and sexual violence

· Inform students of their rights under Title IX and act as an advocate and source of support for students in navigating their rights

· Design and implement agency’s annual communication plan

· Act as a leader and voice for the agency’s mission at Development Committee and event-planning committee meetings

· Assist Program Manager with fundraising efforts

· Act as a public face of the organization, building and strengthening relationships with donors and friends of New Beginnings

Preferred Skills:

· Relevant college degree or course work

· Effective communication skills and desire to work on the topics of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse

· Successfully complete forty (40) hours of agency training

· Clear understanding of 173C and confidentiality laws

· Embraces agency’s mission, philosophical statement, and use of the empowerment model

· Strong organizational and time management skills with impeccable attention to detail

· Willingness to help co-workers on special projects

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, board, volunteers

· Presentation development and delivery a must along with corresponding organizational abilities

· Proficient computer skills including word, excel, email.

The employee is required to sit frequently for long periods either at a computer workstation or at meetings. The employee may be required to climb two flights of stairs to access office and meeting space.
