Families in Transition is currently looking for a Major Gifts Philanthropy Officer to join our team!

 The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for structuring, implementing, and monitoring a highly effective development & donor services program working closely with the Chief Development Officer, President/CEO, and staff to support and embrace the mission and goals of Families in Transition. The Philanthropy Officer identifies, engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards current and prospective major donors in expanding their financial support of Families in Transition. They are responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization. In conjunction with the CDO, they may implement fundraising strategies, as well as implementing development plans. 

This is an ideal position for someone who is committed to building strong and trusting relationships, goal-oriented, and enjoys working collaboratively on a team. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Strategy: Develops and executes ongoing strategy for individuals and major donors to ensure retention, growth of donor contributions as well as recapture from previous donors. Works collaboratively with other departments and resource development staff to create customized solicitation strategies matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the donor/prospect. 

  • Fundraising Targets and Portfolio Management: Manages an assigned portfolio of individual major donors and prospects with the intent to form deep relationships. Responsible for minimum annual fundraising goal tied to a segmented portfolio, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue. Personally solicits assigned donor portfolios through face-to-face visits, calls, and tours, including preparation of personalized materials. 

  • Prospect Development: Implements programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the four- and five-figure level, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for Families in Transition.  Identifies potential planned giving prospects among assigned donors to solicit those prospects. Update donor records in Salesforce following donor contacts. 

  • Relationship Development: Develops ongoing relationships with major donors for the benefits of Families in Transition.  In particular, the Philanthropy Officer will: 

  • Cultivate, solicit and steward support from individuals capable of 4- and 5-figure gifts to meet annual fundraising goals. 

  • Conduct prospect research as needed, using donor database and other resources.

  • In collaboration with the resource development team and other staff, develop and produce donor solicitation, renewal, acknowledgment letters, and other materials tailored to individual donors

  • Collaboration: Works with other Resource Development team members  to actively drive toward annual targets and goals by sharing information, developing strategies, and executing plans. Collaborates on department level priorities focused on direct mail, marketing, and communications, one-time giving events, (i.e., Giving Tuesday, NH Gives Day), and other events and initiatives (Walk Against Hunger, Summer Open House, and Annual Breakfast).

Qualifications: 

· Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of two years of experience in soliciting four and five figure donations required.

· Proven experience in developing strategies for donor engagement, including retention growth, recapture, and proven success with complex requests is required. Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development. 

· Excellent written communication.

· Familiarity and experience with Salesforce CRM is highly preferred. 

· High energy and forward, strategic thinking. 

· Excellent project management skills, the ability to manage complex timelines and multiple projects.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and time management skills. Must be well organized and detail- oriented.

· Exceptional relationship skills with the ability to cultivate partnerships.

· Demonstrated high level of confidence in making strategic decisions, good judgment, innovative and creative problem-solving skills.

· Valid Driver’s License.  Travel is required in and throughout the greater Manchester area. 

· Flexible work schedule.
