About The Greater Manchester Chamber
Incorporated in 1911, the Greater Manchester Chamber (GMC) is the largest chamber of commerce in northern New England and largest business organization in the greater Manchester region. GMC is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)6, member-driven business organization. Our services and initiatives are primarily funded by the membership through annual dues and program revenue. All of our work ties back to focusing on our vision and mission as follows:
Mission - Be the voice of business, shaping economic success to enhance the quality of life in Greater Manchester.
Vision - Greater Manchester is a vibrant and prosperous destination for business and people. As of February 2022, the Greater Manchester Chamber had approximately 800 diverse and active members that employ thousands of individuals across the region. The GMC’s programming is rich and varied – from small, professional development gatherings, state of the state and state of the city events with the governor and mayor, and the annual Citizen of the Year event, there are events and activities that align with the wide range of members. Additionally, GMC also runs the annual Leadership Greater Manchester program, the Manchester Young Professionals and has a separate 501(c)3 foundation. Operating in recently renovated space in the heart of downtown Manchester, GMC is run by an experienced and engaged staff and overseen by an active board of directors that is representative of the business community. Its history, breadth of services and influence make GMC is a highly respected and community-engaged organization.
About Greater Manchester
As the economic hub of New Hampshire, the Greater Manchester region is home to more than 270,000 people and includes Manchester and the surrounding communities of Auburn, Bedford, Candia, Derry, Goffstown, Hooksett, Litchfield, Londonderry, and Merrimack. Greater Manchester has a sound, a flavor, and a rhythm that makes it a dynamic, exciting place to be. It’s a big city with a small-town vibe, and that’s what really sets it apart. The region features all the amenities and attractions here of a big city with the everyday networking of a small town. From foodies, to artists, to history buffs, to outdoor adventurers, the city and surrounding towns have something unique here for residents and visitors. Manchester is the largest city in Northern New England. Located on the Merrimack River, the city is 50 miles from Boston, 40 miles from the seacoast, features a rich a major airport, a minor league baseball stadium, a large performing arts venue and much more. While its roots trace back to the early 1700s when the first group of Scot-Irish settlers arrived, the early history is dominated by the presence of growth of the Amoskeag Mill companies in the early 1800s. By the 1850s, workers from countries including Scotland, Sweden, Germany, Canada settled in the city to primarily work in the mills. At its peak, the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company has 30 buildings and employed 17,000 people, becoming the largest cotton textile plan in the world. While the manufacturing of textiles primarily ceased in the 1930s, these mill building have been renovated and are inhabited by hundreds of businesses, thousands of residents, and colleges and restaurants. They are the connection between the past and future and their prominence dominates the cityscape from the Merrimack River and highway that bifurcates the city. Today’s Greater Manchester region is diverse – with more than 50 languages spoken – and is well-positioned for additional growth as more individuals continue to be attracted to the region for its resources, culture and location.

The Greater Manchester Chamber (GMC) is looking for a Member Engagement Manager who’s passionate about people, thrives on relationship-building, and is ready to help our local business community grow and succeed. The GMC is one of the leading non-profit and business advocacy organizations in the state of New Hampshire. As part of the GMC team, you will be driving the Chamber’s mission: bringing together community and business to enhance economic success and quality of life in Greater Manchester.

The Member Engagement Manager is the front line of connection for our members – a trusted advisor, strategic matchmaker, and enthusiastic advocate for their success. This role partners with the Director of Membership & Sponsorship to grow and engage our membership base, ensuring businesses not only join but thrive within our Chamber community.
The Member Engagement Manager is part recruiter, part relationship manager, part event host – and all about people.
__Specific Responsibilities __
Collaboration with Director of Membership & Sponsorship
- Partner on strategic initiatives and benefit enhancements to increase the Chamber’s overall value and impact.
- Manage prospects and members in the Professional and Innovator tiers, while the Director of Membership & Sponsorship oversees the top four tiers.
Member Recruitment & Outreach
- Proactively identify and engage with prospective members through networking, referrals, community events, and digital channels.
- Craft compelling pitches that showcase the true value of membership — not just what we offer, but what it means.
- Lead new member on-boarding with warmth, clarity, and a personal touch (welcome emails, orientations, shoutouts, and check-ins).
Member Retention & Engagement
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for our small business members – connecting members with the right people, programs, and opportunities to make sure they feel seen, supported, and successful.
- Innovate new ways to engage and celebrate our members, especially during their first two years.
- Utilize social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram to engage audiences and promote organizational initiatives
- Drive annual renewal efforts and maintain high retention across member segments.
Program & Event Hosting
Lead events that bring members together and showcase their stories:
- Chamber 101 (new member orientation)
- Ribbon Cuttings
- Member Mingles, Office Hours, and Member Spotlights
- Professional development and educational sessions
- Special events and community activations (as assigned)
The Member Engagement Manager will also be at other Chamber and community events, building relationships and enhancing visibility with current and prospective members.
Committee Leadership
- Lead Membership Committee and Welcome Committee — energize volunteers and empower them to engage new and prospective members.
- Form task forces or special committees to support key initiatives when needed.
CRM & Data Management
- Keep membership database up to date; use data to identify engagement opportunities and track performance.
- Manage onboarding setup in CRM for new members in specific tiers (Professional and Innovator).
- Build prospect database and facilitate mass prospect communications.

__Qualifications__
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in sales, business development, client success, or community engagement.
- Familiarity with creating content for social platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Office. Experience with ChamberMaster/GrowthZone is a plus.
- Willingness to attend events outside of typical business hours (some morning and evening, rarely weekend)
