The Upper Valley Land Trust, established in 1985, helps people conserve land in 45 towns in New Hampshire and Vermont. We engage people in the vision and process of land conservation and in the stewardship of conserved lands. We provide conservation leadership, tools and expertise to permanently protect the farmland, forests, wild places, trails and scenic landscapes that make the Upper Valley for the health and resilience of people and nature.
About the Job
Position Summary
UVLT seeks an experienced marketing professional to develop effective messaging and strategically select communication channels to maximize outreach impact. The Marketing Communications Director leads content creation, curation, and full management of UVLT’s social media presence, as well as print and digital communications. The Director is responsible for communicating about UVLT’s programs and events but is not responsible for event planning or coordination. The ideal candidate combines marketing expertise, storytelling skills, and strategic insight to engage diverse audiences, raise awareness, and support fundraising. This is a part-time position (16-20 hours/week) that collaborates with UVLT’s external designer and webmaster.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic communications and marketing plan aligned with UVLT’s mission and goals.
- Create compelling, tailored messaging that resonates with target audiences.
- Identify and select the most effective communication channels — digital, print, social media, and other outlets — to deliver key messages.
- Generate original content and curate relevant materials for newsletters, website, blog, donor appeals, print publications, and event communications.
- Manage UVLT’s full social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, community engagement, monitoring, and analytics across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Maintain and update the website (WordPress) with timely, mission-driven content.
- Design and execute marketing campaigns to promote UVLT programs, events, and fundraising initiatives through multiple communications channels.
- Collaborate with program staff to source stories, photos, and updates that highlight UVLT’s impact.
- Track and analyze communications metrics to optimize strategies and report on results.
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all channels.
- Support media outreach and public relations efforts as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, or nonprofit communications.
- Proven ability to craft effective messaging and choose appropriate communication channels.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing social media accounts end-to-end to build engagement and grow target audiences.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across print and digital media.
- Ability to create and curate content tailored to different platforms and audiences.
- Proficiency with digital tools such as WordPress, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management software.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines independently.
- Passion for conservation and familiarity with the Upper Valley region preferred.
- Photography, video editing, or multimedia storytelling skills a plus.
