The Family Place has an opportunity for a Fund Development professional to join our Leadership Team and build upon our 35+ years of fundraising achievements. The Family Place provides programs and services that strengthen families in the Upper Valley and surrounding communities. The Fund Development Director plays a key role in creating a strong, sustainable base of support for this work by strategically connecting with community members, businesses, and foundations who want to invest in strong, healthy families.

Fund Development Director

The Fund Development Director serves as part of the Leadership Team at The Family Place and collaborates with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies to raise funds to support the vital work of the organization. The Fund Development Director is responsible for planning and executing a fund development program aligned with the annual budget and fundraising targets.

Key Accountabilities

Fund Development Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a written, measurable fund development plan that includes annual fundraising goals, annual giving campaigns, donor retention, corporate support and town appropriations
  • Engages Board and Fund Development committee and/or AD HOC committees in fund development activities throughout the fiscal year. Develops a culture of philanthropy among the Board and committees; working to equip and support members in meaningful roles to increase revenue, networking, and cultivation.
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations, working in partnership with the Executive Director to support the leadership giving program
  • Cultivate, nurture, solicit, and steward existing gifts and donors, including major donors
  • Identify and qualify potential gifts and donors
  • Manage donor stewardship including acknowledgment letters and tax receipts
  • Maintains the donor database (Neon) with the Development Assistant to facilitate timely gift entry and acknowledgements, effective seasonal appeals, build accurate and robust donor profiles and efficient revenue reporting.
  • Sets goals, develops, and implements strategies, and tracks progress by funding streams (i.e. individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, foundation, sponsorships)
  • Monitors fundraising activities and goals relative to budget throughout the year and adjusts strategies as needed to reach annual funding goals.
  • Recruit and cultivate strong business partnerships to provide corporate funding. Offer tours and volunteer engagement where appropriate to deepen relationships

Grant Management Responsibilities

  • Oversee short and long-term development goals and efforts of the grant portfolio that align with organizational priorities and objectives
  • Work in collaboration with Executive Director, Finance Director and Program Directors to create grant narrative, budgets and reports for various foundations and trusts
  • Manage a grant dashboard that includes grant requirements, timelines, points of contact, reporting, and granted related obligations
  • Research grant opportunities both locally and nationally. Understands current grant cycles and future opportunities to pursue.
  • Ensure timely submission of narrative, reports, and any other granted related obligations
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Finance Director and Program Directors to ensure grant timelines and goals are met.

Staff and Team Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, staying abreast of organization-wide issues and contributing to the overall management of the organization
  • Lead Development team meetings.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to Development Assistant.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, reporting on and engaging staff in Development and Communications work as needed.
  • Represent agency in the community, and identifying community needs as they interface with the agency.

Professional Development

  • Seek and attend professional development opportunities determined by Individual Professional Development Plan.
  • Cultivate existing and develop new relationships with development professionals from other Upper Valley nonprofit organizations.
  • Remain current with development and public relations best practices, technologies, and communication tools.

Position Requirements

Skills & Knowledge

  • Robust knowledge of fund development and a proven record of fundraising success
  • Knowledge and experience with cultivation practices, annual support and/or capital campaigns, solicitation techniques including face-to-face asking, grant writing, and fundraising reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of fundraising experience in a professional position
  • Experience using a donor database or CRM system
  • One year grant writing experience

Education

  • Bachelors degree in nonprofit, public administration, business management or related area preferred, additional years of experience may be substituted for degree
