NAMI NH is a medium-sized organization committed to improving the lives of all Granite Staters affected by mental illness and suicide through support, education, and advocacy. NAMI NH has over forty years of service to individuals and their loved ones affected by mental illness and suicide, offering statewide activities which provide education, training, and support to individuals, families, and communities. The organization promotes advocacy and provides empowerment at the individual and family level as well as at the systems level by offering training and opportunities to build confidence in advocacy and leadership skills. NAMI NH has 60+ staff, 200+ volunteers, and a budget approaching $6M. NAMI NH's staff and volunteers are flexible, hard-working, and passionate individuals who go the extra mile to ensure the mission is achieved.

About the Job
Job Summary
The Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) provides 1:1 support and education to families/primary caregivers of children and adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbances (SED) in families homes/virtually or in the community. Responsible for identifying and recruiting family member candidates to participate in one of NAMI NH’s leadership training programs providing support to the family leaders in a role of their choice. Ultimately, success will be determined by the extent to which NAMI NH can reduce or eliminate stigma and end discrimination regarding mental health for all individuals and their families.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative
- Provide one-to-one support to families/primary caregivers of children and/or adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) in families homes/virtually or in the community.
- Promote parent participation in NAMI NH-specific programs and parent/family/community support groups.
- Demonstrate in their work a commitment to the system of care values and guiding principles.
- Identify, recruit family leadership candidates, and connect them with the appropriate program to meet their needs.
- Recruit, provide, and ensure training/orientation and support to family leaders in a role of their choice.
- Execute, collect, and organize all data related to the position all tasks required to meet contractual agreements with funders and governing agencies.
- Participate in program team and supervisory meetings and seek consultation when needed from a supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Travel
- While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to talk or hear along with frequently standing; walking; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
- It may be necessary to work some evenings and weekends.
Community
- Demonstrate effective outreach and promotion of NAMI NH’s support, education, and leadership programs and our public policy platform.
- Attend community events/meetings as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with all customers, consumers, NAMI NH staff, families, agencies, and other organizational staff in a productive and considerate manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Lived Experience – having a personal experience as a family member of either/or a parent of a child with SED and understands and has the experience of the process of working towards family recovery empowerment.
- Active certification in NAMI NH Family Peer Support is preferred.
- Working knowledge of community resources and experience navigating mental health and related systems of care.
- One year of work experience in the human service or mental health field providing direct service within NAMI NH preferred.
- Demonstrated writing, public speaking, training, and organizational skills.
- Maintain available, reliable transportation and willingness to travel, and have a flexible schedule.
- Consideration is given for formal education and having completed NAMI NH’s Leadership Programs.
- Above-average proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products and virtual meeting software.
- Ability to develop, track, transfer, and access information related to work through navigating different cloud-based systems as directed.
Work Schedule: Generally, this position works Monday through Friday. There are occasional requirements to attend evening and/or weekend events.
