Executive Director Job Description

Founded in 2010, the Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalitions mission is “To bring stakeholders together through advocacy, education, and collaboration to increase housing options for rental or home ownership to support Valley individuals, families, and businesses and to foster a healthy and sustainable community.”

Position

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalition's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. S/he will develop and maintain deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and strategic plans.

The Executive Director is a flexible full-time or part-time position which allows the Executive Director to create their own schedule and hours while at the same time having the ability to work remotely when appropriate.

• The ED will be thoroughly committed to the Housing Coalition’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, grant writing, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

• Ability to point to specific examples of developing and implementing operational strategies that took an organization to the next stage of growth

• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

• Excellence in organizational management with the ability to, manage, and develop high- performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and develop and manage a budget

• Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

• Establish a strategic vision for the MWVHC.

• Formulate and develop events, programs, and project to achieve the strategic goals of the MWVHC.

• Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.

• Coordinate work of the MWVHC & its committees.

• Actively engage and energize the MWVHC’s volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, and funders.

• Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors: serve as ex-officio of committees, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for local operations.

• Meet with local and state officials and stakeholders to drive the MWVHC mission.

 

Fundraising & Communications:

• In collaboration with the MWVHC Board, lease fundraising efforts.

• Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and program expansion.

• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.

• Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

 

Planning & New Business:

• Coordinate public policy efforts, housing advocacy, research, and planning to achieve MWVHC goals.

• Create, implement, and oversee the Coalition’s education and outreach activities.

• Continue to build partnerships with other organizations in the Mt Washington Valley region, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders.

• Be an external local and state presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of regional programs.
