About the Organization

Stonewall Farm's mission is to connect people to the land and the role of local agriculture in their lives. Stonewall Farm is a nonprofit working farm and educational center. We are the only working dairy farm and education center in the region open to the public.

Set in a scenic valley, the farm consists of pastures, fields, and woodlands and is open, free of charge, every day, year round. Farm staff operate a 30-head certified organic dairy, a farm store, and a Learning Center. In addition, the farm hosts the Wild Roots Nature preschool, the Stonewall Farm School for adults, public programs, special events, school programs, summer and school vacation camps, sleigh and hay rides, and facility rentals for weddings and parties on a regular basis. Hiking and mountain bike trails are also available.

Stonewall Farm Executive Director:

This Executive Director position requires excellence in leadership, management and experience with a non-profit organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall management responsibility for the performance of Stonewall Farm. This will be accomplished by the successful application of outstanding business management skills, motivational leadership, and strong financial acumen. The Executive Director will manage all operations associated with Stonewall Farm, including providing leadership and vision ensuring that the organization fulfills its mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and Finance

  • Lead the creation of annual budget for Stonewall Farm.
  • Oversee and administer the annual approved budget and take appropriate action to maintain the fiscal soundness of the organization. And if necessary recommend adjustments through the year.
  • Ensure consistent quality of finance and administration.
  • Lead staff in developing a strategic plan, including new business opportunities and scaling Stonewall Farm’s current revenue streams.
  • Expand existing and develop new partnerships by actively engaging Stonewall Farm within the Monadnock region. 

Development  and Public Relations:

  • Work closely with staff and Development Committee in creating fundraising strategy, planning and executing effective and innovative ways of raising money.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications; from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand. 
  • Identify and execute grant opportunities for Stonewall Farm.

Management

  • Evaluate all Stonewall Farm programs, activities and products with regard to their sustainability and impact on the organization and community.
  • Work with and support the Board Chair in mobilizing board committees.
  • Lead and nurture a strong staff of seven direct reports, building relationships of trust, responsibility and accountability and instilling a feeling of partnership and cohesion within Stonewall Farm.
  • Promote effective and consistent internal communications to ensure smooth cooperation between departments, staff and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee and coordinate the general management of all farming operations, educational programs and revenue generating activities.

Governance 

  • Serve as ex officio of each board committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local and regional operations.
  • Oversee financial and human resource management and communicate status effectively to the board.
  • Ensure that appropriate fiscal controls and procedures are in place to ensure transparency and accountability.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant education and experience.
  • Demonstrated strong financial acumen with experience in managing a budget using controls to ensure financial viability.
  • Experience with fundraising and grant writing.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams. 
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Strong marketing and public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  • Experience creating strategic plans and business plans.
