About the Job
JOB SUMMARY: Develops and directs a program of transitional services including structured skills training and vocational work-based learning opportunities for students such as internships, volunteering, mentoring at job sites, and job shadowing opportunities. Completes transition skills and vocational assessments, provides guidance/support for transition IEP services, and consultative services with team members required by the school districts and documented in Individual Education Plans (IEP’s).
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred in Education, Educational or Organizational Leadership, or related field
EXPERIENCE: Experience with program development and project management. Experience working with teenagers and/or young adults with significant and multiple disabilities, with emphasis on transition assessment, intervention, and training within both educational and community settings. Additional experience providing services to students in the school-based setting, supervising job coaches, working with offsite supervisors, collaborating with team members and business partners to design individualized programming is desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Free of restrictions which would limit the use of the body as it relates to the repetitive lifting of weight up to 50 pounds, and physical management of students consistent with CPI training.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid driver's license, Obtain and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and CPI. Participate in professional development as determined by supervisor.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides strategic leadership in all aspects of transition program for students
- Develops and implements a school-wide tiered transition system including structured curriculum for transition and vocational skills developments
- Monitor program effectiveness through data collection, analysis, and reporting including compliance with transition indicators (e.g. Indicator 13) and other metrics to evaluate outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
- Provides training on evidence-based transition practices including age-appropriate transition assessments, career readiness, and required IEP processes
- Works with local entities to develop work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Provides work-site/setting assessment and situational analysis of students’ performance.
- Provides instruction based on academic and business-defined occupational skills and standards and assists students in the development of school to career graduation plans.
- Coordinates group/individual vocational sessions for student services per student's IEP.
- Oversees maintenance of up to date vocational assessments as approved by the school district responsible for student services.
- Attends IEP and other meetings with internal/external team members to review progress, report on transition/vocational skills and services and facilitate interagency collaboration for seamless support of students transitioning into adulthood
- Supervises job coaches, vocational assistants and vocational coordinator.
- Partners with the Director of Community Engagement to align vocational programming with organizational initiatives, community partnerships, events, and funding opportunities in support of student transition services and the school’s mission.
- Builds and sustains partnerships with community organizations, vocational programs, employers, and post-secondary agencies to expand student opportunities
- Serves as a key liaison between schools, families, and external agencies to promote transparent and effective communication to support individualized pathways and post-secondary goals.
- Supports staff in completion of progress reports reflective of IEP Transition Services.
- Trains/supports staff in completion of the IEP Transition section goals and updates present levels.
- Communicates in a professional and effective manner with a variety of community stakeholders about the school's mission.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
JOB SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
WORK SCHEDULE: Compensation is based on 40 hours per week during the school year and summer school (207 days). Daily work hours are from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.
