About the Organization
Manchester Community Music School serves over 1,500 individuals each year through a wide range of high quality music programs including early childhood classes, private lessons, chamber groups, the largest youth ensemble program north of Boston, summer community band, summer camps, the most comprehensive Suzuki program in the state, an extensive outreach program, and a high quality, well-established music therapy program. Our students and clients range in age from 6 months old to 80+ years young and attend the school from 60 New Hampshire communities. MCMS serves the wider Manchester area through our extensive outreach programming, working to keep music at the center for New Hampshire's education and enrichment programs for every child, youth and adult. Community partnerships are an important part of Music School programming as they enable us to bring music education opportunities and music therapy services directly to those who can benefit most, but who otherwise might not have access. Core to our mission, the Music School is committed to ensuring that anyone wishing to study music or benefit from music therapy services can regardless of their financial situation. As such, MCMS awards more than $100,000 in financial assistance each year.

Position Title: Director of Development and Marketing
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Overview
The Director of Development and Marketing at Manchester Community Music School (MCMS) is responsible for leading and implementing the organization’s fundraising, marketing, and communication strategies. This role supports the mission of MCMS by cultivating and securing financial resources while enhancing the school’s visibility and community engagement. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, the Development and Marketing committee, and the staff to achieve financial goals and ensure the continued growth of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Development (Fundraising)
- Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that includes individual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, events, and planned giving.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective stewardship.
- Plan and execute fundraising events, such as annual galas, concerts, donor recognition events, and special campaigns.
- Create and oversee donor database management, ensuring accurate records of donations, acknowledgments, and communications.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on identifying and pursuing new fundraising opportunities.
Marketing and Communications
- Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communication strategy to promote MCMS's programs, services, and events.
- Oversee the design, production, and distribution of all marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, press releases, and digital content.
- Manage and expand the school’s online presence, including website updates, social media platforms, and email marketing campaigns.
- Work with program staff to develop promotional campaigns that increase enrollment and community engagement.
- Coordinate media outreach, including relationships with local press and partnerships with community organizations.
- Create and maintain consistent branding across all communication platforms.
Leadership and Strategy
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to overall organizational planning and strategy.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Development and Marketing Committee
- Supervise and mentor development and marketing staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets, providing regular reports on progress toward fundraising and marketing goals.
- Stay up to date with best practices in nonprofit development and marketing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, preferably in the arts or education sector.
- Proven success in securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
- Experience with event planning, including large-scale fundraisers.
- Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals, reports, and marketing content.
- Experience managing websites and social media platforms for promotional purposes.
- Knowledge of donor management software and marketing
platforms (e.g., MailChimp, Constant Contact).
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A passion for music education and community engagement.
