About the Job

Description

Job type:             Full Time exempt, 40 hours a week 

Reports to:         President

Supervises:          Fundraising Coordinator, Grants & Development Coordinator, and two Development Officers 

Location:             Office based in Concord, NH, with flexibility for remote work and business-related travel

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Bring the Northern Forest Fund, a capital campaign including both gifts and impact investments, to a successful close and use its momentum to increase annual fundraising success after the campaign has ended 
  • Manage the full range of fundraising activities – annual fund, major gift solicitations, foundation, corporate and government proposals
  • Employ multiple tools – planned giving, recurring gifts, special gifts, endowment, impact investments, etc. – to achieve goals 

Relationship Management: 

Lead board and staff in cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donors:

  • Develop, assign, and support the staff, Board and campaign volunteers with donor portfolios
  • Manage strategies to cultivate donors and secure gifts; arrange and participate in solicitation of major gifts
  • In collaboration with the Fundraising Team, lead strategy for the creation of solicitation, cultivation and promotional materials
  • Plan and oversee events to engage, educate and steward existing and potential donors 
  • Oversee donor acknowledgement, recognition, and tracking systems

 Administration: 

Lead all development functions and oversee the coordination of grant proposals and reports, funder relations, and administrative tasks supporting the cultivation and solicitation of gifts:

  • Proficiency in, or willingness to learn, Salesforce CRM and Asana Project Manager
  • Create and manage an annual development plan and budget
  • Work with the President, Philanthropy Committee, Board of Directors, and campaign volunteers to develop and carry out an annual fundraising plan
  • Work closely with Operations Staff to ensure coordination of operations staff to support development functions
  • Develop and adhere to policies and procedures including management of sensitive information  

Organizational, Planning & Supervisory: 

Contribute to the Center’s overall strategic planning and organizational development: 

  • Participate in strategic planning processes and connect funding and program development needs with external funding sources
  • Attend board meetings, staff meetings and retreats
  • Guide program staff on how best to engage in fundraising activities; represent the Fundraising Team at board and staff meetings 
  • Work with President to coordinate activities related to board development
  • Engage and work with a variety of consultants and vendors as necessary
  • Lead the supervisory duties of the Fundraising Team

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

The ideal candidate will operate with the highest level of integrity, be self-motivated and directed and eager to learn from, and contribute to, a high functioning team.  The candidate will have five or more years of development (or commensurate) experience using both traditional tools and advanced technology, managing successful solicitation efforts, securing major gifts from a variety of sources, managing special campaigns, producing donor cultivation and stewardship events, and engaging volunteers.  Additional qualifications include:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deftly manage the President, peer staff and volunteers 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, and adapt with evolving programs
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills capable of engaging a diverse donor base
  • Experience working with a dynamic staff team and Board of Directors
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to bring fun and camaraderie to the team

Regular travel throughout the Northern Forest and region and occasional overnight travel is required. 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite required. Working knowledge of Salesforce and Asana project management software are highly desirable. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range of $90k-105k, commensurate with experience. The Center provides a full benefits package including but not limited to employer-sponsored health insurance, short- & long-term disability coverage, flexible spending and dependent care accounts, employee-directed SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, 20 paid vacation days, 12-13 paid holidays in accordance with the Federal holiday schedule, 12 days paid sick leave, and a flexible and supportive working environment.
