Purpose of the Role
The Chief Business Officer (CBO) provides operational, administrative, and strategic support to Less Leg More Heart. This role exists to offload a significant portion of the CEO’s workload, enabling the CEO to focus on vision, fundraising, and high-level stakeholder engagement. The CBO will oversee business operations, communications, volunteer management, and development activities while ensuring compliance, efficiency, and measurable impact.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Leadership & Management
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, deadlines, and multiple stakeholders.
- Experience supervising volunteers, staff, or interns.
- Strategic thinker with proven process-improvement and organizational skills.
Administration, Finance & Compliance
- Knowledge of nonprofit compliance and reporting (IRS, NH Charitable Trust, 990s, annual reports).
- Financial literacy in bookkeeping, reconciliations, budgeting, and audit/tax preparation.
- Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and database reporting.
Fundraising & Development
- Track record in donor relations, stewardship, and fundraising campaign management.
- Grant reporting experience, including tracking in-kind donations and volunteer hours.
- Event planning expertise across both large-scale fundraisers and community events.
Communications & Marketing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, newsletters, appeals, and digital campaigns.
- Familiarity with social media strategy, cross-posting, and digital storytelling (stories/reels).
- Content creation or graphic design ability (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar).
Relationship Building
- Strong interpersonal skills to connect with donors, partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to cultivate partnerships with corporations, foundations, and community groups.
- Sensitivity and empathy when working with vulnerable populations, especially amputees.
Technology & Tools
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) and Zoom.
- Comfort with digital media (YouTube, social uploads) and impact measurement tools (pivot tables).
Personal Qualities

Education & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of professional experience in nonprofit operations, program coordination, or business administration.
- Hands-on experience with bookkeeping, donor/volunteer databases, and fundraising/event coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MBA, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field).
- 5–7+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit operations or development.
- Proven success in donor stewardship, communications, compliance, and event management.
- Background in partnership development with corporations, foundations, and community organizations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Strategic & Administrative Support
- Deliver quarterly strategy updates and progress reports to the CEO and Board, with measurable progress on at least 75% of strategic initiatives each year.
- Ensure all leadership and board presentations are prepared and distributed at least 48 hours in advance of meetings.
Corporate Development & Partnerships
- Establish 3–5 new strategic partnerships per year (corporate, foundation, or academic) that contribute to program expansion or funding.
- Maintain quarterly stewardship touchpoints with at least 80% of existing partners.
*Fundraising, Communications & Public Relations
- Develop and execute at least 4 major fundraising campaigns annually, achieving or exceeding revenue targets set in the annual plan.
- Produce and disseminate monthly newsletters to both donor and beneficiary audiences, maintaining an open rate of 30%+.
- Secure minimum of 6 speaking or media opportunities per year to elevate LLMH’s visibility.
*Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Complete monthly bookkeeping and reconciliation by the 15th of the following month with 100% accuracy.
- Submit all compliance filings (NHCT-12, SOS, IRS, payroll/W-2s) on time with zero errors.
- Maintain Charity Navigator and Guidestar profiles with quarterly updates to ensure accuracy.
- Deliver an annual budget proposal by December 1st each year for Board approval.
Business Operations & Negotiations
- Successfully negotiate or renew 100% of major contracts and vendor agreements within 30 days of renewal/expiration.
- Conduct semi-annual reviews of market trends and competitor landscape to identify 3 new opportunities per yearfor growth or efficiency.
Innovation & Program Integration
- Collaborate with program leads to integrate at least 2 new initiatives or service enhancements annually based on beneficiary and partner input.
- Provide a quarterly program integration report demonstrating how business/strategic perspectives are influencing delivery and outcomes.
Event Management
- Support execution of at least 2 major organizational events per year (e.g., Gala, Fire Truck Pull) with post-event reports delivered within 30 days showing attendance, revenue, and lessons learned.
- Lead coordination of April Limb Loss Awareness Month campaigns with 100% of planned activities executedand a 10% increase in public engagement (measured by attendance, social reach, or donor participation).
