Sandwich Children's Center

Founded in 1985, Sandwich Children's Center is a non-profit early learning center currently serving working families from Sandwich, Center Harbor, Moultonborough, Meredith, Holderness, Ossipee, Tamworth, Tuftonboro and beyond.

Sandwich Children's Center is dedicated to providing children with a foundation for future learning by creating an environment in which children can discover themselves, the natural world, and the communities around them.

We work to fulfill our mission by offering a culture of creativity and warmth using nature as our classroom and play space, with the arts as a tool for giving voice to a child's experience.

We are committed to providing access to all children regardless of ability or economic status, and believe that a loving, warm, and engaging start is what every child deserves.

Our Teachers: A Key Difference

We pride ourselves on employing caring, educated teachers who work hard to make the children's days interesting, active and fun. All of our teachers have college degrees, most of them at the bachelor's level, plus at least 9 credits of study in Early Childhood Education. Our teachers work here because they love working with chldren and value the mentoring and continuing education they participate in as part of their employment here. Check out our teacher and staff bios and backgrounds on our website under "About Us."

Our Days:

Directed, intentional learning as well as free play each day. Age-separated indoor and outdoor spaces for Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers and School-age children. This lets children make independent, age-appropriate play choices. Empasis (with a light hand) on social skills, as well as cognitive skills, gross and fine motor skills and language development. Teachers have the curricular freedom to respond to the children's interests (a teaching philosophy called Emergent Curriculum).

SCC at a Glance:

  • Open year round, Monday through Friday, from 7:15a.m.-5:30p.m.
  • Flexible scheduling to accomodate families' busy schedules.
  • After-school program for children aged 5-12 years.

SCC has just raised $150,000. to renovate the school age classrooms through selling NH CDFA tax credits (Community Development Finance Authority) along with support from the Alfred Quimby Fund and generous individual donors from the community. All work will be done by a local builder.

They also are funding many early childhood enrichment activities that we offer the children. Visits from the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, local storytellers, local artist for Art Labs, and many other educational activites for the children.
