The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is a science museum dedicated to NH space pioneers Admiral Alan Shepard - Navy test pilot, first American in space and one of only 12 people to have walked on the Moon - and Christa McAullife - innovative, dedicated educator and selected out of over 11,000 applicants to be NASA's Teacher-in-Space. The Discovery Center has two floors of interactive exhibits on astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science; a state-of-the-art full-dome digital planetarium; observatory; science store; café; public programs; aerospace festivals; summer camps; scholarship competitions; outdoor picnic areas and exhibits; and an educational outreach program complete with telescopes and a portable planetarium.
After 22 years as the State of NH science museum, we are transitioning to the private sector; on January 1, 2013 we begin operations as the nonprofit McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.
