Rye Historical Society

Rye Historical Society is an all volunteer organization formed in 1976, with the mission to interpret the town's rich history through free public programming held at Rye Public Library ,trolly tours, events, community outreach and liasing with the local schools and other organizations.Through the Town Museum, the RHS shares the history of Rye with exhibits from its collection of artifacts and photographs, highlighting important and interesting aspects of the town's past. The RHS is a research resource for town residents, local schools, academics, as well as out of towners with roots in Rye.

Our Trolly Tours, which take place annually on Memorial, July 4th  & Labor Days has been a wonderful sellout this season, with visitors even following along behind in their cars when it has sold out of Trolly seating.

Along with this is a new self guided tour found through the IZI.Travel app. The Rye Beach tour can be downloaded to your smart  device (or your computer for arm chair travel), and the tour can be narrated, or you can read as you walk along to the 25 locations where the history is decribed of summer Inns, Boarding Houses, Hotels from the turn of the 20th century. Images for each stop show the original and  present building. Check it out! We hope to develop more walking tours such as this in the future.

We are exciting to launch a new exhibit opening May 2019 highlighting textiles from our collection which have never been shared publically.

We are also supporting ongoing efforts to commemorate the approaching 400 year celebration of European settlement on Odiorne Point. Follow through our newletter found on our website our programming  and progress of RYE 1623.
