Kingswood Youth Center

The Kingswood Youth Center was founded in 1999 for 7th - 12th grade students in the Governor Wentworth Regional School District who would otherwise spend after school hours idle or home alone. Our mission is to provide a safe, positive environment in which youth may grow, learn and develop important life skills critical to their success in the adult world. Although open to all middle and high school students, over 75% of our youth are at risk.

Through school-to-work and after school programs youth learn “soft” skills such as effective decision making and interpersonal communication skills and technical skills.  Programs are experiential in nature and include but are not limited to cooking and nutrition, sewing, journalism, computer and electronics repair, small engine repair, music, art, produce gardening, community service, conservation, woodworking and sports and recreation.  Additional services are college advisement, homework assistance and referrals to welfare and social service providers such as individual and family counseling, food pantries and fuel assistance.

The Youth Center purchased property in 2008 and erected a brand new 3,000 square foot facility that opened in October 2009.  We recently purchased a used van that will enable us to expand our community service opportunities in addition to providing education and recreational field trips.
