Lakes Region Community Services

Since 1975, Lakes Region Community Services has been an essential community partner supporting individuals and families living with developmental disabilities or acquired brain disorders and providing community-wide family supports to enhance quality of life from birth through the lifespan.

As one of New Hampshire's 10 designated Area Agencies, LRCS provides community-based services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families residing in Belknap and southern Grafton counties.

The state's Area Agency system was created as the result of a federal class action lawsuit that ultimately closed the Laconia State School in 1991, making New Hampshire the first state in the country to have no institution for people with developmental disabilities. Statewide, the system serves more than 10,000 individuals and families.

The Agency's roots in providing community-based services, strengthening families and promoting inclusion were major factors in the development of the LRCS Family Resource Center of Central New Hampshire. The Center is dedicated to strengthening all families and the communities in which they live.

Recognizing the need for the region's aging population to have access to resources that will allow them to stay in their homes and communities, LRCS created its HomeAssist Program, which provides essential home-based services to the elderly and those with chronic illness.

In addition to the programs and services offered by LRCS, we are a resource for information and referrals about other organizations and programs in our community that can help those we support best meet their needs.
