Interlakes Community Caregivers

Interlakes Community Caregivers, Inc., is a volunteer organization that provides rides and other direct services to assist our neighbors in their daily lives.  Services are provided free of charge and include rides to medical appointments, both local and long distance, personal appointments, grocery shopping, errands and friendly visits.  We are "neighbors helping neighbors" - local people helping local people (and funded by local dollars).   If the neighbor is unable to leave their home, volunteers will go grocery shopping and run errands for them.  Presciption pick-up and delivery is also provided.

Although our services are available to anyone in the towns of Center Harbor, Meredith, Moultonborough and Sandwich, our typical neighbor is an 80 year old woman who lives alone and no longer drives.  She is independent in spirit and doesn't want to live in a nursing home, nor does she want to move to Massachusetts to be closer to her children!

We address such important issues as transportation in a rural community, aging in place and senior isolation.  With the aging demographics of our country, state and particularly our community, Interlakes Community Caregivers serves a very important role to make our area much more livable for our local residents.

Formed in the basement of the Center Harbor Congregational Church in 1998, we have grown from an outreach church mission of 26 volunteers providing 500 services a year to an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit with 92 volunteers providing nearly 3,000 services per year.  Services are provided free of charge and we receive no Federal funding.  Volunteers are thoroughly trained and vetted and must successfully pass background checks and our Volunteer Education Classes to serve our neighbors.

"I don't know where I'd be without you!"  is a common refrain from our neighbors. They don't have to wonder - we're here for them!
