Portsmouth Music and Arts Center

Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC) is a community music and visual arts school providing creative learning opportunities for all ages. Our mission is to build community through the arts. From Kindermusik and pre-school art classes, to music ensembles and art classes for retirees, we have something for everyone. Art programs simultaneously build foundations and incorporate 21st century technology. Music programs are available in classical, jazz, rock, folk, blues, bluegrass and other genres. PMAC is home to a faculty of nearly 50 professional musicians and artists who work as mentors to more than 700 community members each year. Whether you are a novice or preparing to attend college for your art form, we have programs to bring your creativity to the next level.

In 2014 PMAC opened a new, state-of-the-art facility at 973 Islington Street in Portsmouth. Designed by DeStefano Architects, the building includes new art classrooms, a gallery and recital hall, music classrooms, private lesson studios, and a technology classrom that is designed for both sound recording engineering and multi-media visual arts. It more than doubled the size of our organization and has become a home for our more than 700 students.

To learn more about PMAC, visit our website at or call our administrative offices at 603-431-4278. Gallery hours are 1-6pm, Monday through Thursday.   Stop by anytime to explore the school.
